I have a forum spam question

I have created a nice little forum for my website, but before I set it live are there any ways to check the forum spam filter?
I'm looking for a way that I can run on a local closed network to finish up testing.
I'd like to do at least 2 days of real time spam blocking during testing so I'll probably need some sort of spaming program if that's a legit thing right?

-if there is a NB secrete I'd love a pm or direct email-
I don't really ever see spambots on here, is it just that simple to block them?

Its similar to it, it's a custom php scripted forum that my buddy developed in grad school. I've just never used it, and he's out of the country backpacking for the next month or so.

There are a couple of real-estate sites that use it, and a few bands fan-sites as well, some are overrun with spam and others have none.

The only forums I've used are phpbb and vbulletin.

With those is there a way to test the spam filter so that spambots can not sign up and post threads or spam existing ones?

I'm not 100% sure I understand what you're looking for. You want to test your forum before it goes online with a built in script/program/mod/hack? I'm not following

If you are looking for ways to protect your site from them first off i would suggest Recapcha definitely the best anti spambot protection. Best to use it at the registration and contact us page.

Also if you have any coding knowledge add a bit of php that makes the user have to answer a question such as "what is 2+2" and "what's the name of this site" generally spambots won't have the knowledge to bypass that.

@gamahiro -- I guess I'm looking for software that will attempt to spam my site so I can better protect it in the real interweb.

@Dr Octogonapus -- I added a few logic questions as my first defense but have seen bots bypass them sometimes. I'll look into that software too though, thanks!

Did you put like a time limit between posts? I have only used SMF and Phpbb in my life so far. I can't pay for vB.
