I'm saying you're wrong in assuming there's only one possible interpretation. As assumptions, it could be either one, 50/50.

Besides, why would the Rinnegan unlock at death? So it could be forever useless? Or so someone else could steal it from the corpse and use it? You'll make the argument that it doesn't have to make sense; that that's just what happens. However, this is a fictional manga. While it could be that that's "just what happens", there are usually a rhyme or reason to these things in a story. Again though, either avenue is equally possible.

Okay. So then you are wrong. You're assuming that there are only two possible interpretations. Sorry, just had to.

Who knows why it would be unlocked at death, but it makes for a better plot, rather than waiting 70 years for your Rinnegan to develop. Oh 'stealing from a corpse', I like that vibe.

I still think it requires a death experience.

There's a third? How am I wrong? Since we have no evidence beyond the fact he unlocked it close to death, we can assume he

(1) Unlocked because of being near death

or

(2) It takes years to awaken

70 years? Uh, where are you getting that timeframe?

Oh 'stealing from a corpse', I like that vibe.

Not even sure what you're trying to make apparent here. Yeah, people would probably do that.

I still think it requires a death experience.

And you can think that.

Unlocking any Dojutsu doesn't require near death experince, so why should Rinnegan be that way? and Sasuke doesn't have Senju DNA

Kabuto appears to have been able to build a Rinnegan, using Senju DNA, into a younger-bodied form of Madara. Does that not allow for another possibility?

Do you take everything someone says seriously to use it as an argument against them?

I was not being sarcastic. I liked the idea of using someone as host to nurture the Rinnegan, then robbing them of it.

And you can think that.

Thank you. My opinion has 'The Damn Batman' stamp of approval.

Your argument contradicts itself. Time limit has never been shown to be a factor either, the awakening of the Sharingan and it's other stages has always been connected to the feelings of the user. [Directly or indirectly] I'd say that it's safer to assume that a near death experience is the requirement for awakening the Dojutsu, think about it, what despair would be more extreme than having gone through all the things Madara went through, only to realize that in the end, it was all for nothing. [Obviously, nothing has been confirmed yet, so this is all just a theory. I apologize if I was a bit unclear, but I don't feel like writing a wallie right now. Might create a thread about this later though.]

There's ambiguity behind it. I don't think Kabuto created an actual Rinnegan. If so, why not just implant it in himself?

Do you take everything someone says seriously to use it as an argument against them?

Is this supposed to be some sort of threat?!

Ah, I understand.

You could probably shorten that to "Batman Seal of Approval". You'd also be the first to ever officially receive it.

Just as there is ambiguity behind the first two assumptions, no?

I don't believe he could simply take a Rinnegan from an Edo Tensei.

Logically, he did create the Rinnegan. When Madara revived himself, he was revived without his eyes. Similarly, the same thing would have happened when Kabuto performed the Edo Tensei. Kabuto then performed experiments on the 'zombie' by implanting Senju DNA, and then sent Madara out into the battlefield, to see if he was successful.

Kabuto also said it was the power 'he created'. Even though Madara had said 'don't get the wrong idea, you did not create this power', he was still unaware of the changes made to his chest at this point in time. He later then admits Hashirama's face was not of his doing.

In fact, what I just said is not even necessary, when you understand that Madara lost his Rinnegan after discarding his Edo Tensei body, which calls out to the fact it was because of Kabuto, that he had access to that power.

Is this supposed to be some sort of threat?!

wat?

While possible but it may not be the only criteria to awaken the Rinnegan as Madara was active for quite a long time (Summoned Gedo, Gave Nagato the eyes etc) after he obtained them .... so he might not have been exactly at Death's door but nearing it. But since the Sharingan, MS seem to follow the trend, Rinnegan might actually awaken due to a peak emotional state.

A lot of people keep saying this, and I have no idea where they are getting it from:

Unlocking the Rinnegan requires being near death.

Can somebody show me the scan that states this is a full-on requirement? I'm tired of feeling dumb.
if you take the mantle of the bat don't mention stupidity its not in your character damn you :p
