I don't see the appeal of FMA Brotherhood

Especially after watching the original 2003 masterpiece anime. Sure, it diverges from the manga, has a smaller world and less characters, but it sure as hell is more deep, gritty, philosophical and complex in every other way. Brotherhood was your typical fantasy Shounen with epic fights, (poorly done) comedy, weird face gesticulations, large world building, and here and there it had a powerful and deep moment.

Watch the 2003 version of Shou and Nina Tucker and then tell me Brotherhood is better

Watch the 2003 version of Lab 5 and the ontological debates between Al and Berry the Chopper and then tell me Brotherhood is better.

Watch the 2003 version of Trisha's death and her grotesque human transmutation and then tell me Brotherhood was better.

Watch the 2003 version of Izumi Curtis' backstory and then tell me Brotherhood was better

In fact, with the exception of the Ishbal massacre, maybe, everything in the original anime was infinitely better than Brotherhood. The original had much better OSTs compared to Brotherhood, Dante was a much better villain than Father (Father was your typical God Mode Sue, Dante was an even more twisted and demented version of Orochimaru), Ed wasn't an idiot in the original anime, fights were far more strategic, and the only Humunculus that was better in Brotherhood than the original was Fuher Bradley (Badass I will admit). Was the original canon? No, but it doesn't have to be to be considered better overall. The only major flaw of 2003 was the not so good ending whereas Brotherhood I'll admit had a solid and fitting ending, I suppose.

Then again, this is just my subjective opinion. If you're a fan of epic and exhilarating fantasy, great and fast paced storytelling, epic plot twists, then Brotherhood's more expansive world and diverse ensemble is just what you need. If you're like me where the essence of a story is themes, complexity, profoundity and intellectual stimulation I would easily put the 2003 anime>>>Brotherhood

Like you said, it's personal opinion. I liked Brotherhood better than the original one.
And saying that comedy was poorly done is just ridiculous, i had a great time laughing my ass off throughout the entire series.

The problem is that watching one or the other first will invariably ruin your experience of the latter. I watched 2003 first, hence why I hated Brotherhood. Conversely, brotherhood fans hated 2003.

The problem is that watching one or the other first will invariably ruin your experience of the latter. I watched 2003 first, hence why I hated Brotherhood. Conversely, brotherhood fans hated 2003.

Interesting I watched 2003 first before brotherhood and found them both amazing but they both aren't in the level that Monster, Legend of the Galactic Heroes, and Cowboy Bebop are on

This may surprise you, but I've actually never watched Cowboy Bepop. I've heard a lot of positive reviews about it, but have never thought of actually watching it.

I've looked up Cowboy Bepop right now and what I got so far is that CB is about a badass Jewish space bounty hunter with an Afro.

I liked the manga. I liked the 2003 series, especially the sequel movie, even though some things didn't seem to make sense (why are the Homunculi named after the sins?). However, Brotherhood somewhat disappointed me - sure, it was a faithful adaptation, but I felt like its artwork and animation could have been better (at least in some parts) while the 2003 series were of more consistent quality. Plus, Brotherhood still had some deviations from the manga, and some parts that they removed or changed were those I considered important (personally).

Exactly, after watching FMA(2003), FMA(B) loses a bit of it's original spice...
I was also hyped when going into 'Brotherhood' but couldn't find that level but when it became distinct from 2003, it was great too...

I completely disagree. Brotherhood was remade with a bigger budget solely for the purpose of making the 2003 anime better. It totally succeded in that.

Awesome animation, awesome art, awesome soundtrack, awesome characters and an awesome story. It literally did everything right. It covers the canon story so this alone makes it take the cake.

Well if I start a discussion on let's say distant sky manwha for example, there would simply be no posts because not that many are familiar with it. Hell even in a sites as big as MyAnimeList there are no discussions about it.

First 13 or so episodes of FMAB are rushed since that part was already covered in FMA. They made them on premise that everyone had already seen that part once, IMO. And the first episode of FMAB is noncanon. Other than that the first series had advantage of being the first version but just being a darker version doesn't make everything better...

I prefer the manga anyway; it's like I said, I felt like the quality of the 2003 series was more consistent, and FMAB could have been a better adaptation. The first series was weirder, but I like weird stuff.
