Kakashi already died once. So I don't think he'll die again. Kakashi is an important character and if he died for real this time, it's gonna be much less impactful and diluted because it will have been something already seen and repetitive.

As for Gai, I think his fate as well as others depend on Kyuubi's willingness and on Naruto afterwards. Alone, his chances are nearly nil.
