Gaara's character was originally gentle. The world warped his perceptions and caused him to dive headfirst into the madness that he felt so at ease with. Killing was his muse.

He's not a pansy anymore just because he won't take innocent lives.

When a character is portrayed as evil, he's fun to watch. However, that gets old real quick as time goes on. They just remain the same old cop-out villainous monster common in literature. It is better to add a back story. Glad that Kishimoto did that with Gaara, as well as everyone in Akatsuki bar Deidara and Hidan. Lol

Definitely my favorite villain aside from Nagato. His circumstances (aside from the parental attempts of genocide and his own acts of homicide) and behavior perfectly resemble that of an ostracized child in school, which is why I liked him so much.
