Hunter x Hunter - Just watch it.
Fairy Tail - Overrated, but still good.
Berserk - Fûcking crazy plot, good fights, nice story.
Inuyasha - Good plot, better fights.

Trust me it is one of the greatest of all time, and it has exactly what you're looking for. Anyone who has seen it will tell you the same. Plus it's only 60 episodes.

After that you should try Hunter x Hunter 2011.

If you love story, you NEED to watch Baccano!. Trust me on this one put all the other suggestions on back burner until you finish Baccano! it's not long around 20 episodes if I remember right.
