Not quite, but close.

*I again break out of it*

It's a rank thing. This isn't an official NB rule, but it's something I follow and teach every student I train in shadow jutsu to follow.

If you remember the Shikamaru vs Tayuya fight, when he finally trapped her in a Kage Mane he had a much harder time keeping her trapped once she activated her curse mark. So I take it as anyone with alot more chakra than you can over-power the technique. My guideline for it is
-You can trap people your rank and lower with no problem
-You can trap people one rank above you with a little difficulty
-People 2 ranks above you or higher can break out of the technique.

With that said, I'll make a clone that has the same amount of chakra as you, and you can try the technique on him

*Makes a clone*

well its not like ill face kage-ranked people at this point...but anyways... thanks for the info :)
*makes another rat seal*
*focuses chakra into shadow*
*manipulate my shadow until it reaches your clone's*
*as I raise my hand, i focus chakra into the shadow, making you move your arm also*
is it like this?

umm that depends on the terrain. IF there is water nearby- then I'd drown him. After he dies, i use my underwater motion tech. If there is a stone wall of a huge tree, i'd do what shikamaru did in the chunnin exam

okay, and what if the terrain is a plain field, nothing special about it? What then?

This is where you really need to be creative in what you do.

An easy way to do this would be to state somewhere in the match that maybe you keep your shuriken pouch on the opposite side than your opponent does.

This way if you reach to your right to grab a shuriken, but your opponents pouch is on their left, than when you grab your shuriken they'll have a fist full of nothing. And you can freely throw the shuriken at them without having to worry about them doing the same to you.

Or, for me, I keep a hand claw on my left hand. Something that not many people have, that way I can walk up to the opponent once they're trapped and punch them in the face or wherever. I'll get hit too, but I'll only be bruised, or at most have a broken nose, while they'll be dead from the claw piercing their skull. (Just an example, don't steal my way, find your own xd)

Also note that once the Kage Mane jutsu is complete (you have the opponent trapped) you no longer have to keep the rat sign. You can move however you want to.

Good, you've earned the Kage Mane jutsu

(Kage Mane) - Shadow Imitation
Rank: D
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra cost: 10
Damage Points: N/A
Description: Traps the enemy by combining shadows.

Next up is the shadow imitation shuriken jutsu

(Kage Mane Shuriken) - Shadow Imitation Shuriken
Rank: D
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra cost: 10
Damage Points: N/A
Description: Traps the enemy buy throwing and hitting there shadow special blades infused with shadow chakra.

For this one you need to have special chakra reactive blades to use. As you're using Shikamaru, you should have Asuma's Trench Knives, which will work for this.

You focus your shadow chakra into your trench knife and throw it, aiming it at your opponents shadow. When it connects, it has the same effect on the opponent as the normal Kage Mane jutsu, they become unable to move.

This technique is preferable to the normal Kage Mane because when using this one, your opponent doesn't mimic your movements. This means you're free to finish them off however you want. The problem is, this way is a bit harder to trap people with because they can block the shuriken/knives/whatever away from their shadow fairly easily.

But I have come up with a way around that. I'll explain that part after we see if you've got the technique down. So again, try it on my clone.

Yes that will do U_U

*I go over to where the clone was and pick up both blades*

Now. As I said before, this is a bit harder to trap people with in an actual battle. Because if I throw a few normal shuriken at you, how would you defend?

*I throw 3 shuriken at you*

exactly. Most times projectiles will be blocked before they even get near their target. Which is why it's hard to effectively use this jutsu.

But I do have a way around that, but it takes away the distance factor.

Asuma's trench knives are mainly hand to hand combat weapons. Meant to be up close and in your face. So use them that way. Attack with them in close, and then as your opponent defends, you can charge them with shadow chakra and drop one right onto your opponents shadow to immobilize them. They'd have almost no time to react, and why would they? They'd think you just dropped a weapon, it'd be a good thing for them in their mind. And then once they realize they can't move, you still have the second one to finish them with, or whatever other way you choose to end it.

Alrighty. Well, before we get to the more offensive Shadow jutsu I want you to have a spar against someone and try to use one of these two jutsu (or both) to end the match. You don't have to win, but I want you to get some practice trying to use these and see how you do. When you're done, VM me the link to the fight :)

Okay, I've actually just made a post in that thread, so check it out. And if you can find me a video or w/e that shows that Hidan vs Shikamaru fight I'd like to take a look at it. Cause I actually have only been reading the manga for a while now. I havn't watched the anime since before that fight even happened >.<
