What if it was Sasuke who Madara took under his wing? I think Sasuke would've been way stronger than he was portrayed in Shippuuden. He'd be the closest to Madara in terms of power.

Sasuke would awaken rinnegan at an old age without help from Hagoromo and if he awoken it naturally it would be equal to Madara at best so fighting Madara wouldn't be a good idea. Unless he fights old ass Madara.
The story would be totally different anyway so no one knows how everything would play out.

Madara would place on Sasuke that funny seal he had on Obito and bla bla, no Rinnengan for Sasuke because if it take so much for Madara to awaken it then Sasuke without help from Hagoromo would have even less chance. And because Itachi would thought that Sasuke is dead he would lose his reason to live and done something stupid which will cost Sasuke chance to have EMS. So this whole would end with Sasuke at Obito place without Kamui and then Pein would probably obliberate him.
Sasuke is infinitely more clever than Obito. He hoodwinked one of the smartest people in the manga and humiliated him. He has a tendency to use people and discard them brutally when they serve their purpose. Madara is lucky Sasuke didn't become his apprentice.

It would have been one of the most brutal betrayals in Narutoverse. But actually, Sasuke had already "betrayed" Madara when he didn't accept his offer to team up.

He would make an Orochimaru out of Madara. Sasuke uses people for power and knowing madara he'll give Sasuke senju tissues instead of curse seal marks. Once that happens it is game over for Sasuke. All the jutsus he taught, the bijuus he left, and the gedo under his control would be used to Sasuke's liking. Total world domination with Uchiha clan being above all in the shadows (what he told naruto at Vote).
