I've been thinking a lot about what the whole situation with Guy and Naruto's about and I'm trying to figure out what it means. Don't get me wrong, I think it's total BS, but what's the message conveying? Is Kishi trying to say Naruto's become a God who can change what was supposedly set in stone, that people who use the 8 gates die? Is he saying that after the constant reminders that people who go to all 8 gates die, that Naruto's become powerful enough to change that? Or is Kishi just a s**t writer who can't be consistent with his writing? I just don't know what to think.

Not only am I incredibly disappointed that he's still alive, but people are making the argument that he'll live, but he'll lose all ability to stay as a shinobi. After the whole situation with Lee, that just makes no sense. After Lee basically said he'd rather die than lose his ability to be a shinobi, you'll let Guy live at the price of losing his ability to be a shinobi? I just don't think that makes sense after what Lee went through and all of his pain.

At the same time, if you let Guy live without any major damage, what's the point of rules then? Like how can you go on and on about a person using 8 gates will die, just to let him live without any major sacrifice? I just don't get that, unless, again, Kishi's trying to say Naruto's become god-like to the point of being able to change these firmly set rules.

What do you guys think?

I think what you said about naruto ascending to godhood is basically it. Remember after breathing life back into Gai, Naruto did say he feels like he can change everything.

So in any other circumstance yes you die after using the 8th gate, you body burns to ash. But since Naruto and Sasuke are on the level of the divine so to speak,

"Some rules can be bent, others can be broken."

Still as someone else posted a theory. It will takes Sasuke's power to reconstitute Gai's body thus giving him complete revival.

Dead people coming back to life (edo tensei)

Dead people coming back to life (nagato)

Dead people coming back to life (naruto/sasuke)

Dead people coming back to life (Garaa)

Dead people coming back to life ( Gai )

Dead people coming back to life ( orochimaru multiple times)

Kishi sucks at keeping people dead
Gai,kakashi,itachi,asuma,hiruzen
All had cool great deaths that kishi ruined by bringing them back

Not really, I'm just trying to understand where Kishi was going with this

Then what was the point of Naruto saving him? That's reminds me of a short story that went something along the lines of he wanted his cremated wife to be alive again for eternity, just for her to be suffering in agony since she had no body parts. You're telling him to live his life with likely his entire internal bodily structure all messed up and missing body parts? That's gotta be excruciatingly painful, and Naruto's forcing him to live through that? And if he's just going to die, what was the point of saving him at all?

naruto is just getting super OP now thats it
I hope that's the case, but he could've conveyed it in a less asspull-y kind of way.

Seems like a major asspull to me. Not thrilled with Naruto and Sasuke having the ability to change the rules of the world as they please.

He might just be saying his final words to Lee and co before passing next chap.
Guy already said his final words to Lee right before he went into 8 gates. Guy went into it with both his and Lee's accepting Guy would die shortly afterwards with possibly no chance of saying goodbye. There was no point in extending the inevitable if that were indeed the case.

XD no doubt, but this arc has been full of a**pulls what's one more added to the roster? But I know how you feel. Maybe others are right and Gai's life was just prolonged to say his goodbyes...again. Which would be okay with me. But Immortal Sage is kind of right. Kishi seems to have a hard time keeping his dead characters dead. The only ones who have died and not have been used as edo's (at least not yet) are Jiraiya and Neji....let's hope it stays that way.

But theres always childhood flashbacks before character deaths in this manga. Why would Gai get a full chapter of his past if he wasn't even going to die in the first place?

I TOTALLY 100% agree with your entire thread MYSTIC.. Guy is in my top 3, but the story really needs a MAJOR death at this point, I mean a absolute DEATH and of a main character. The story as been losing its realalisticness on certain levels; If that makes since too anyone lol I couldnt word it very well..

When I say losing its realness I mean the fact that this is a War Arc and hardly any main characters died.. Neji was about the only one. Yamato is MIA. Lol hardly any bad-guys have died either, besides stupid zetsu's.

I don't mind that it isn't realistic, what I do mind is that there's no consistency in the rules it has. Part of why I love manga/anime is its lack of realism. But even if it's not realistic, it still has rules. Yes, they get bent all the time, but in this, they've been flat out broken. I mean Madara has already been completely revived. What's the point of death if you can revive in your prime? I mean Madara wasn't just revived, he was revived 30 years younger.

I already made a thread about how Naruto as a series has been frustrating me, and this is adding to it.

I agree with you also, I really do. When I use the world realistic on here I mean relative to the history of the Naruto Universe itself..
