That's not a tough question to answer. He got gifted a powerup by the sage of six paths.

What Hashirama can do is ridiculous. He doesn't have any bijuus but can still defeat Madara with susanoo and kurama. He has an insane amount of chakra. Just imagine him as the juubi jinchuriki, he would be at Kaguya level

He has an insane amount of chakra. Well right here we have 2 things that helped him to get those chakra levels. First and mostimportant, he is a transmigrant of ashura so he has doble chakra in him.

You say he doesn't have any borrowed abilities or any special eyes and you are right but he does have something, in fact he has 2. He has a special chakra capable of surpressing Bijus chakra and has a kkg (mokuton) which we know he has in his DNA. So this means he had a special ability that helped him.

Having those powers would be stupid not be a great ninja. Hashirama might not have been called a once generation ninja for his talent but was born maybe 1 of 1 million to have gifted abilitites such as special chakra, ashura transmigrant and unique kkg.

That is why he is strong.

The real question is how the heck Kishi justified Hashirama being superior to EMS Madara prior to giving him SM. I mean we always knew it was Hashirama + Moukuton > EMS Madara + Kyuubi, before we knew Hashi had SM. Now this was before we knew about Susanoo armored Kyuubi, but we were never told this version of Hashirama, the one that manhandled EMS Madara, had SM... not until late in the war.

Thank goodness for editors who likely convinced Kishi to give Hashirama SM during the war. SM Minato on the other hand.... not as believable of a story.

It clearly says during the battle. Read the f scan. Hashirama cannot obtain Kurama during the fight, he just put him to sleep then Mito during the fight seal it in her to prevent the Kyubi to start attacking again if he wakes up.
