how squads are decided.

just thought I'd put forward my view on this- genin squads in naruto (in my opinion) are put together when they leave the academy depending on proficiency, like this-
1 specialising in combat (decided by physical test scores)
1 specialising in tactics (decided by written test scores)
1 sub-par ninja who's potential in either proficiency is yet to be realised

Depending on their academy scores (how good they are in their given proficiency) Squads are chosen so we have balanced teams and to aid the 3rd member in realising their potential. thus-
best combat genin + best tactical genin + worst potential genin
2nd best combat genin + 2nd best tactical genin + 2nd worst potential genin
etc.

This is not to say that a ninja may not be skilled in both tactics and combat- it is merely stating which proficiency they had more skill in than the other.

My findings are based on the chunin exam arc and I think they are quite accurate.
e.g.
Sand Siblings
Gaara- combat specialist
Temari- tactics specialist
Kankuro- potential tactics specialist

Team 7
Sasuke- combat specialist
Sakura- tactical specialist
Naruto- potential combat specialist

Team Gai
Neji- tactics specialist
Lee- combat specialist
TenTen- potential combat specialist

Well you get the point.
ps. this is only my theory and opinions. It may be completely false and you are welcome to correct me on anything I may have gotten wrong. ^_^

Thanks. I dunno if he followed this set of rules intentionally but it seems to apply to every genin squad I've run through it... ^/_\^

I remember in one of the first episodes that squads were balanced in strength. That was one of the main reasons that a talented ninja like Sasuke back then was placed with the clumsy Naruto. Ah I already found it:

Well,that was stated already O_O
If they made something like this:
gaara+sasuke+neji=complete disaster
gaara wants to kill sasuke and there wouldn`t be an actual improvement ina ny of them cause they would think their team is the best.
But by making the sasuke+sakura+naruto combination,they made naruto and sasuke improve their knowledge,sakura would get complimented cause she wouldn`t need to fight thanks to naruto and sasuke being combat types,then due to naruto stubborness he would evetually improve and begin to make sasuke jealous,making sasuke train too.
So there you have it.The main reason of why the teams are like that is because they all compliment they teammates.
