On a scale of 0 to 10 how sad and betrayed he felt when Sasuke tried to kill him and then he got rid of the last Uchiha?
Did he truly wanted to take care of Sasuke?
Did he have the desire of at least one Uchiha following him after all the betrayal he felt in the Konoha founding period?
It seems that yes, he was being sincere trying to convince Sasuke to side with him.
He even laughed a little in the anime trying to light up things.
Later Hashirama even admitted the reason he spared Sasuke: he was very devout to his clan and loved the deeply -Hashirama's words.
Maybe killing these memories reassured his IT plan and drove him even more mad in his Rikudou Mode. But it sure hurt him a lot more than it seems.
