It's not just about watching it. I actually bought the complete Box Set of the first series(Naruto). Each Box Set was about $45.

No way billions of people are fans of Naruto, but maybe you're kidding.. Kishi probably doesn't make money from individual copies of the manga that sell, the manga company probably pays a lump sum for every published issue. That's my guess at least.

Or he would only get a tiny amount from individual manga sales, which would be a worse deal for him...

He's probably not super-rich. I bet the companies that make the anime/games/toys profit alot more than Kishi due to video game sales, etc.

They don't get any money from merchandise, like figures, since that goes straight to the company that made them.
