I was wondering how many breaks can a manga artist get ?

Clearly you haven't heard of Togashi. A manga artist can apparently take as many breaks as he wants considering that Togashi does 9 chapters in a year. Sometimes i feel like the man thinks he's doing a monthly shonen manga. This shit is weekly and he takes monthly shonen type hiatuses.

He should go for monthly publication officially and spare us the eccentric waiting period. But then he might have to draw three more chapters a year. ... not just 9. :|

Don't give him ideas =D

At Least now he might sometimes feel compelled to write after feeling a bit bad about skipping weeks of releases. In case HxH goes monthly he will have much bigger hiatuses(see Miura of Berserk for example) =D

OT:- It depends on Mangaka/publisher.

If you're Toshagi then you can take as many breaks as you like because people know the levels.
But if a normal guy tried to do that they'd probably end up screwing themselves over.
