According to Itachi, by killing the close one will allow you to activate MS. We all know Sharingan activated when emotionally outburst or losses control of the user emotion, forcing him to active Sharingan. Probably by killing those close one will indeed affects your emotion and eventually activate MS.

well you dont need to kill your best friend to get the MS. Remeber Sasuke got his from killing Itachi. to get the MS you need to lose someone you have a great attachment to. Remember Sasuke's whole life was revolved around itachi even though he hated him.

u have to kill the person closest to you in order to gain the MS..

and wrong sasuke didn't got his ms from killing Itachi, although he didn't even killed itachi because itachi ran out of chakra and was already ''sick'' as said by tobi/madara so itachi didn't had much time to survive ( if he was serious yes but stilll that's another subject )
