And all his plans for sasukes future failed greatly. He created a monster and Put the shinobi world and konoha in jeopardy.
Why would a genius fill his little brothers life with hatred and force him to lean towards revenge.

for one he filled his little brother with revenge because he knows his brother is an avenger. by making him one it would make him stronger. and in the end help him unlock his ms. not only that but what he really was planning for was for sasuke to return to the village a hero after killing itachi. he was sick yet he tried his best to do what's better for his little brother.

1) Poor life decisions??? Like? He was basically forced to kill his clan knowing if he didn't kill his brother Madara would come for him one day or Orochimaru.
2)He didn't create any jutsu but found the Yata Mirror and Sword of Totsuka. He also managed to use his own chakra twice after death similar to Minato and trigger i)Amaretasu at Madara from Sasuke ii)Stop Amaretasu from himself
3)OMFG OF COURSE HE IS SECOND TO LAST. THE CLAN WAS WIPED OUT SASUKE LAST REMAINING SURVIVOR ITACHI....WAS SECOND LAST(not including madara as obv he discovered it 1st)
4)Ok so how does that not make him a genius. He can't CONTROL Sasuke. In fact he prepared for Sasuke turning evil anyway by giving Naruto an ability to help him defeat Sasuke.
5)Actually that'd be Orochimaru that done that. Or if you wanna get technical: Hiruzen, Danzou & 2 Elders created the monster that is Sasuke.
6)Itachi knew if Sasuke was aiming to be as powerful if not more so than Itachi then he would be safe, in the sense he could defend himself, he also knew one day he would want to restore the clans image and try to rebuild. Sasuke killing him = Sasuke hero of Konoha and biggest mistake of the uchiha replaced by biggest success.

Planned to over take the leafe village failed
Planned to get Tsunade to cure his arms failed
Planned to take Sasukes body failed
Trained Sasuke - Biggest failure
Putting curse mark on Sasuke = death by Itachi later on

You also had Madara in your list of geniuses...do I really need to point out HIS mistakes. His plans might be working now...but you know having a couple of decades to plan shit makes it easier I guess.

Omg you still don't get it. I admitted that itachi was one of the strongest and most talented ninja in the series. But his life decision making is what seperates him from the genius category. Read it again. HIS DESCISION MAKING is terrible. Nothing he did did anything good for the future. I'm not just talking about the massacre. I'm talking about everything to sasuke to koto and naruto. Your praise him for what he did with shisuis eye and he admitted that his plan with it failed. Just like all his other plans.

Its not about the plans failing. It's having the foresight to implement such plans whether they are successful or not is not within Itachis control

He wouldn't have been suprised but shocked. Why would he expect Sasuke to return but give Naruto a way to fight him? Sasuke probably would have returned had Madara not interfered.

Listen to what your saying. So you rather kill your family with your own hands than to let them die in battle. He didn't even try to talk the clan out of their plan. If he was such a genius then why not go attack the man that cause it all Madara. Since he knew madara was behind everything. How about be noble and at least try to take another route.

Option A
Don't kill clan they fight the leaf and kill many ninjas. But eventually lose. But in saying that nobody wins here due to deaths on both sides. Uchiha are branded traitorous scum for the rest of Sasukes and Itachis(he prob wouldn't fight) life. Remember the Clan had been planning this as far back as the Kyuubi attack. You think they can be swayed not to?

Option B
Kill Clan. They don't lose their reputation and Sasuke can live his life as an Uchiha with respect grow strong kill itachi become a hero restore the clan.

Option C(the "genius" option)
Somehow get shisuis eye - manage to Gen every Uchiha to never revolt again...hmmm but wont the Gen run out...ok ok nevermind.
Ok how about...talk to his Dad....nah wouldn't work from the way the Manga was going Itachi and his Dad weren't having the best of relationships as Itachi knew about the coup probably ALREADY tried to talk him out of it was asked to spy by both sides but saw no option but to tell the elders.

If he hadn't killed his clan, everyone but him would have died, including Sasuke.
