I've posted in a couple of threads about certain choices that I do not approve of, for one example being drinking soda.

I'd like to discuss peoples beliefs on overall health and maintaining it, as well as tips and advice. Let this be the "Health/Nutrition" thread and possibly the "Athletic/Exercise" thread.

I've been pursuing healthiness since before I was 12. My mother and father always exposed me to healthy foods and I grew up getting use to it. I began to make it my goal around freshman year in high school by completely cutting majority of things most of everyone eats on a daily basis such as bread (gluten) and High Fructose Corn Syrup, an ingredient most commonly found in highly processed foods such as Oreos, simple juices like Hawaiian Punch etc.

My reason for this? I have at least 4 goals in life that are athletic. I also want to maintain a healthier self because it's a high standard and it's a dedication. I want to be at the peak of human physicality.

Let's talk about it! Hopefully this can be a hopping thread and you'd all share your ways of maintaining overall health and fitness.

I drink soda and I don't remember the last time I was sick

Eating or drinking 100 grams (8 tbsp.) of sugar, the equivalent of about two cans of soda, can reduce the ability of white blood cells to kill germs by forty percent. The immune-suppressing effect of sugar starts less than thirty minutes after ingestion and may last for five hours. In contrast, the ingestion of complex carbohydrates, or starches, has no effect on the immune system.

I don't know how many sodas you drink but it can impact your immune system.

I personally lost 20 kilograms over the course of this year, but entering university i got lost and i added back 5 kilos. I have started exercising back and eating healthy, basically eating very little carbs, i eat brown rice or brown spaghetti as dinner but breakfast and lunch are bananas, apples and grapes. My body will eventually cave to old age but i will do my darn best to delay such time.

My parents are founding coaches of Beachbody, so that completely changed my eating habits and how I view working out. I haven't had soda for a couple years now and have pretty much cut all fast food from my diet which is a big deal for me since I use to be obsessed with Taco Bell lol

Cool. I too dislike soda and never drank coffee or alcohol. I eat anything I get served. XD
I do however get sick but it's just once a year.

Getting sick only makes you stronger. You should be wallowing in germs if you want to reach peak physical condition.

I never eat vegetables. And I only get sick once a year. And that sickness is not due to unhealthy eating, it s due to hayfever. So yeah, I guess my diets fine. Hehe.

I stopped drinking any soda altogether about 7 years ago, I keep track of what things I eat and I avoid fast food. Lots of steamed vegs, fruits and such. I often squeeze a lemon in a cup, add raw brown cane sugar and fill it with cold water and drink it on an empty stomach. Good for losing weight

I'm fairly fit and healthy. I eat 5 meals a day - each meal is composed of protein, low amounts of fat, high carb and salad. Make sure they're all balanced. And I workout 4 days a week, with each day I train at a specific muscle. Although I still eat a lot of fast food and drink soda, but I never suffer any sickness.

No soda or coffee- always drinking water. Last time I got sick was maybe 2 or 3 years ago and it lasted for about a week.

eating habits: Plentiful amount of fruits and veggies- organic all the way. Lots of protein from tuna, albacore, and eggs.

overall decent, other than my love for dark chocolate and all kinds of desserts.

exercise: I ran track and played soccer throughout highschool so I have good habits and great cardio <3. Recently my 5k and milers have plateaued but I'm satisfied as long as I can keep them consistent.

That's really good! One thing about Tuna is that you should not try to eat it so often. Like 2 times a week because of the high mercury content in it.

How do you eat 99% Dark Chocolate and not spit it out? I thought that literally near 100% it's so thick you can't swallow it. I eat around 85% and it's one bar a month.

I've been eating it for years. Started 70-80% and built up from there. Now I eat it like candy. xD

Also, if you're eating chocolate for its antioxidants, flavanols, oleic acid, and other sweet medicinal chemicals, pay attention to the ingredients. Make sure you buy non-alkalized; many of the antioxidants are lost in the alkalizing process.

I was born with glass bones and paper skin. Every morning I break my legs, and every afternoon I break my arms. At night, I lie awake in agony until my heart attacks put me to sleep.

I gained weight back in 2013, but lost it all and then some. And I don't eat healthy food.
