Just because he knows about the 8 Gates doesn't mean that he fought someone that has them before. The 8 Gates are known to everyone since it's common knowledge. The chakra pathway has 8 main points which keep the chakra flow constant and controlled and those are the 8 gates. Unlocking them allow you to do things you usually wouldn't be able to.

considering the amount of scrolls there were in konoha containing jutsu and madara was part of konoha at one point it is not suprising he has knowledge on it.. gai had to get it from somewhere so it was obviously recorded earlier within the village

If the Senju did have it, it would explain why the Uchiha were "inferior in battle," despite things like the mangekyo sharingan in their favor. That's an interesting idea, but you should also note that MS was rare to a few select individuals, most Uchiha stopped advancing at 3 tomoe Sharingan. The Senju had no restrictions to accessing their body however like a Sharingan user.

Im kinda dissapointed we dont have gold steam for reference reasons, but I guess the 8th gate having red steam is logical, muscles tearing themselves apart and blood mixing with chakra overflow, kaioken, can't really depict gold in manga scans XD

MS was apparently common enough for a calamity to gain EMS was caused. I think MS was more common than what was let on. Heck, there was even a sort of system describing what types of MS are in existence. Susanoo is a rare power, indicating that there are common MS powers. The knowledge that Sasuke's straight comma is best for movement, ect.
