I believe the reason he's young is because Kabuto modified him and since Madara still has Hashirama's face on himself that must mean when he revived he kept the modified body.

yeah i agree with this

I think him being brought back as an Edo before Rinne tensei is what is confusing everyone.

I guess it's because Madara's real body was rotten and decayed somewhere. But his eyes were preserved and still usable. So in a sense his eyes were still alive. So when he got brought back with Rinne Tensei, Rinne Tensei was able to recreate his decayed body, but it couldn't "recreate" his eyes because technically his eyes were still preserved. In a sense, his eyes were still alive, so Edo tensei couldn't "revive" them so to speak.

Think of it this way. Granny Chiyo died. And was brought back to life. Let's say that before she was revived, they took out her eye balls. It wouldn't make sense for her to be revived with a new set of eyes in her head. She would be revived, but without eyes.

Now as far as him coming back to life as a younger version of himself, I believe that is because while his Edo body was technically dead, it still counted as a living body for Rinne Tensei purposes, because Madara's soul was still inside a vessel (which technically means he was living). So when Rinne Tensei brought him back for real, it gave him his young body because his young body is where his soul was last kept.

So to put all this together, Rinne tensei will either revive you by recreating your old decayed body parts, or it will revitalize your already existing body. Technically Madara's young Edo body was an exact replica of his real young body, and since his soul was already in it last, that's what Rinne Tensei revived. The eyes did not come back, however, because the eyes, unlike the body, weren't actually "dead"

yes but at that time Madara didn't have his real eyes... he already gave his eyes to Nagato before Obito first met Madara!
Rinne Tensei No Jutsu revives you in your state of which you were when you died BUT you will achieve youth as well :) (Prime State)

What about the third hokage then?

third hokage is an Edo Tensei revival, Madara isn't Edo... he's revived with Rinne Tensei

AND when Madara WAS EDO... Kabuto did some special experiments with his body so that he would look young and have rinnegan etc

But that was edo, not rinne tensei, kabuto's edo tensei should only have the hashirama face? [not Obito's rinne tensei]
the rinne tensei brings one back to life in your original from, like when pein brought back kakashi back he was the same age when he died.

Well, anything is possible.

Does the black zetsu has its own ulterior motive? [Hence, controlling Obito's broken down body, without the true Madara's consent?]
This is a great thread for the simple fact that yes Black Zetsu Aka Nagga Madara is his Will and Will's change all the time he my feel that Madara's plan may not be whats needed or my he may feel that Madara dream my not be right, so yeah it could go either way you know the saying about 2 people who are the exact same usually don't get along

I get this, because if he loses what he had as an Edo then techniqically he should have lost the Hashirama face on his chest right?

What I believe the Rinnegan stands apart from the Reviving technique. As in if someone with a Rinnegan were to revive someone with a RInnegan they would not also revive that persons Rinnegan. If that were the case the following would be possible.

Person A with Rinnegan dies.
Person B uses new found Rinnegan to revive Person A (There are now 2 Rinnegans) (Person B Dies)
Person C kills Person A
Person C revives Person A again (There are now 3 Rinnegans) (Person C Dies)
Person D kills Person A
Person D revives Person A again (There are now 4 Rinnegans) (etc...)

With this you see that you can create almost a limitless number of Rinnegan's and then after everyone has died, you simply use Rinne Tensie to bring back EVERYONE that died, much like when Nagato brought back everyone in Konoha, and you get an infinite number of Rinnegans for nothing.
