Madara nor Izuna weren't rumored to have killed someone close to attain MS either.

Shisui also did not kill anyone close to attain the MS as far as we know.

All of that, Killing a loved one BS was just a lie by Itachi so that he could make Sasuke strive for the power to kill him, so that Itachi could seal his jutsu into Sasuke making Sasuke think he unlocked it on his own IMO.

After that uchiha tragedic incident itachi was never close to sasuke. Sasuke might have ended up killing naruto.

Maybe kakashi killed rin by accident just like how nagato killed yahiko. Maybe rin sacrificed her life to save kakashi somehow. Thats why they neva showed how rin died. xd

It's been stated somewhere in manga -may be during Itachi & Sasuke fight, that MS is awakened by emotional stress or with intense pressure during training or fight.
If not, it still make sense.
Sasuke awakened his after hearing the truth abt his brother -emotional stress.
Itachi after his closed friend died. He killed him or not but he should have had emotional stress either way.
So Kakashi would ve awakend his when he went through mourning period after Obito died

1. Simple way: Kill your best friend.
2. Alternative: To train oneself to maximum potential.
3. Another: To have near dead experience.

Kakashi was under Itachi's Tsukyomi, And was Injured quite bad mentally. He might as well have copied MS.( But I think his near dead experience awakened his MS).

this way is so simple i mean if you got ms by sheer traing then so many uchiha already had the ms
3. Another: To have near dead experience.
its also lead to so many user of ms

ps: by way 2 and 3 ms should be common in among uchiha
