maybe he meant it was new for naruto to see, and hes practiced it enough to use it in a battle. kakashi hasnt been the type of person to use a tech without having practiced with it. it wouldnt make sense for him to use something that wasnt ready or was not garunteed to work.

That doesn't make sense because when he first used it on Deidara he didn't master controlling it and it wasn't a guaranteed hit. He states he can't manage the size of Kamui:

Agreed, but that doesn't mean, in any way, that he could have had his Mangekyou Sharingan the whole time since either Obito or Rin died. Obito died ~20ish years ago and Rin also died some time ago. If he had it all along then he would have mastered his Mangekyou Sharingan and Kamui YEARS ago.
Considering the fact that Kakashi couldn't control Kamui when he first used it on Deidara and now he's completely mastered it to being able to warp away Susano's arrows, hardly a year has pasted. If he had his Mangekyou Sharingan all that time since Obito or Rin died, then he would have mastered Kamui before the series began and would have used it.
It's more reasonable that he developed it over the time skip.
Umm 1 of the ways to get the MS like some ppl above said is 2 lose a close friend and thats how Kakashi got his MS as he saw Obito die(his best friend) as hes not a uchiha, he couldnt activate it until diedara so yah
i wouldnt go as far to say he could warp the susano's arrows, they were massive and sasuke managed to use alot of them, kakashi wouldnt be able to stop all of them or even be able to use that tech enough to save himself/others.
He does. When Sasuke confronts Kakashi and Sakura he fires an arrow at Kakashi and he warps it away.

My point is Kakashi's mastered his Mangekyou Sharingan and Kamui in a short time. He could focus it and warp away Pain's missle, and even a small nail flying at him at the speed of almost a bullet.
My point is he did NOT have Mangekyou Sharingan waaaaay back when Obito or Rin died as you say. He would have mastered his MS and Kamui before the series even began because from the time he first used it on Deidara and now, it's hardly been a year.
He developed it over the 2-3 year time skip.

maybe he got it from the moment Obito died... just a theory but think about it.. I doubt that the user has to kill to gain MS, just watching some one you care about the most die might activate it. Kakashi didn't show it but Obito was his best friend. maybe his MS was awakened a long time ago but it took time to activate.. He received the sharingan with two tomoes and as an adult its three... maybe after his encounter with Itachi he learnt the basics of obtaining the MS, went thru it over and over in his head, realized he might have it already and spent 2 years trying to activate it.(2 years he wasn't the sensei of any of the 3 members of team 7)

, hopefully we get shown how he unlocked it, and i'd like to see a itachi chronicles if he talks to sasuke and then we get a long arc of what happened down to the order of the clans massacre to the scene where sasuke first activates his sharingan against itachi as a kid. it would be really cool to have some more insight on what itachi was feeling when he killed his best friend, and it would be cool to see him kill all the uchiha in his clan and how he felt about making those lies up to sasuke and pushing himself to hide all emotion from sasuke. it would be cool to know what he thought as he left sasuke unconcious on the street. if itachi was really good, then we will se alot of sad moments for him.That's a good idea. I'd be sad though to see Itachi doing all these things against his willyeah it truly was!

i know, but itll bring more emotion to his character. itll upset me to see him do all that to sasuke again, and just seeing him have to lie and hide his emotions is going to be upseting aswell. when i saw how sasuke reacted from it all i felt really sorry for him, and when i saw the episode where he walked through his clans village and just swayed his arms back and fourth until he came to his home and saw his parents chalk outlines and blood on the floor and he started crying i was hateing itachi so much because of it.... sasuke was a happy little boy, and he didnt deserve to have to go through all that...That's a good idea. I'd be sad though to see Itachi doing all these things against his will

I think Kakashi was able to obtain the MS beacuse he blames himself for the death of Obito on the count of him pushing kakashi out of the way of the falling rocks and ending underneath them. The fact that he couldn't open it from the beginning is probably because he wasn't powerfull enough every uchiha starts with one additional pupil when they open their sharingan and then work their way up to three and if they kill someone who is close to them they get the ms and in sasukes case he got his from itachi that's why they have the same techniques.

Another way to gain the MS is to have it transferred to you, Like what Itachi did to Sasuke before he died from the disease.
He placed his finger on Sasuke's forehead and transferred his ocular jutsu into him.

why wouldnt it be obito? they were teammates and best friends and 2nd he couldnt activate it cause of the chakra, his normal sharingan already uses alot of chakra so maybe he didnt have enough for it, btw im sorry im just saying :/ im not the 1 writing naruto so ya
