How come Itachi/ (mainly)Kisame were scared of Jiraiya in Part 1, but not Orochimaru?

Only Kisame was pissing his pants, because Jiraiya was above his paygrade. Itachi was just putting up an act which made even Kisame question it.

Because Jiraiya was perhaps the strongest character back in Part 1?

Even with later Shippuden knowledge we know that he's still a force to be reckoned with, in a battle they didn't need to fight or risk themselves to even if Itachi was a villain.

Not to mention, his Sannin hype was godly and probably scared even the Akatsuki- who had never met him.

OP: Orochimaru was so certain in itachi's power that he even said w/ him on his side nothing could prevent his evasion. lol and mind you that was without knowledge of his mangekyou techiques, the same techniques jiraiya knew nothing about when he made that outrages claim of beating two akatsuki's at once. underestimating jiraiya's strength is irrelevant if he has no counter to them, a counter that conveniently most opponents sasuke has faced since awakening MS were fortunate enough to possess and even then sasuke had yet to reach itachi's lvl.

This scene was clearly hyping Itachi and the later threat of the Akatsuki. Why would you not hype upcoming villains who you intend on keeping in the shadows for a couple years?

You get that i'm talking about hype right? Itachi probably is stronger than Jiraiya. But if we're thinking about hype in the NV & from the POV of a part 1 reader, there is no reason they wouldn't be concerned about his appearance. Even the Akatsuki WHO HAVE NEVER MET HIM would be and were fearful.

This can't be accurate and might even be fan-fic because honestly looking back at part 1, the only consistent hype and most "feared" was around itachi, orochi, minato and young hiruzen. all of which blurred as to who could've been the best but more times than not it was mostly pointed between minato or hiruzen being #1 strongest. then when leaf members mentioned protection from orochimaru they always said "if only minato was alive" jiraiya was always an after thought and like I said in my initial post, itachi was the only one factor strong enough to prompt orochimaru to not only admit inferiority to itachi but that working together the leaf evasion would had been successful and "Nothing could stop them". That's majority of the hype in part1 and likely spawned the deeply rooted itachi and minato wank. as for shippuden, the only legit hype jiraiya had received was from pein and even then that was mostly out of respect as his former master rather than factual, cause we all know (well, the reasonable ones) that pein would had quickly destroyed jiraiya in a different more open battlefield.



that wasn't the only laughable versus argument you've claimed that just happens to be your best highlight lol.
- your statement would only be somewhat credible if sasuke's reaction timing and speed was on the same lvl as konona 9, which they're not. as long as his reaction timing is far above them and has dojutsu's fast enough to force Ay to use raiton shunshin and kakashi to use kamui, there is no way possible MS let alone EMS sasuke could lose to konoha 9. maybe when he was blind and fatigue after fighting danzo but even if he were to lose there he would've killed atleast half of them.

Back in part I (keeping the whole double agent Itachi thing in mind) Kisame was hesitant on confronting Jiraiya knowing he had Itachi on his side (who dealt with Orochimaru easily by himself). I know that Itachi was hyping him up to avoid combat, but in Kisame's perspective those two should have been able to handle Jiraiya. Hell, i think in Part II Sasori (assuming by himself since Deidara had no knowledge of their upcoming meeting) was prepared to face Oro when he was going to meet Kabuto on the Tenchi Bridge.
