1-Where did Hagoromo say he didn't pay attention to Indra 'in the Manga'...I don't remember that.
2-He knows well Indra's Ideals(Which he called Kaguya's Ideals)...it's what led to Kaguya's actions. So, yeah, he's going to go the other way from a path he had already witnessed the end results of and had been working to cleanup behind. (Note. at the time he chose his successor he didn't have full knowledge of the events behind Juubi's attacks.)
In fact, Ashura's way was something new to him...seeing the results of that way inspired him.
3-Nothing suggests he knew anymore about Ashura than he Knew about Indra...it seems he mostly watched them both from afar.
What was there to teach Naruto and Sasuke?...he was also operating on limited time with Madara closing in on completing the Infinite Tsukuyomi.

Hagoromo had time after they defeated Kaguya to teach them something quite quickly.
Indra's way wasn't Kaguya's. Kaguya didn't care about peace, she just wanted an army to protect herself from the other Otsutsuki. Indra believed in peace through force which is more realistic than "everyone let's love each other".
