You were irrelevant to the story, if you weren't NAruto Uzumaki, in part 1. (this is if we are really going to play the "irrelevant" card. )

The story is at its end, what more relevance do you want? You want shikamaru and etc who are all in IT, to wake up, and get powers on the level of Naruto and Sasuke, and join them in their fight?

Naruto and Sasuke would've been dead without the "fodders" or according to you "irrelevant" people.. in this very war. Sakura, who had no powers.. still relevant. Those stuck in IT still relevant.

6 characters =/= story.

lol WHAT? you have that backwards. youre irrelevant to the story in pt 2 if ur not naruto sasuke or a villain. in pt 1 everyone was relevant gtfo. it wasnt like naruto had to do every goddamn thing other people actually mattered.

so basically u think they got no character development in part 1 manga because they werent animated =_=

"all that development". Meaning, "god level development"..... While in reality, it really didn't have that much of development.. just average.

1. They were kids, Naruto is developing into the person he wants to be.. K11 only relevant why? Oh yes.. because of Naruto freaking Uzumaki. No one really mattered besides Naruto Uzumaki, know why? cause hes the main character. If Kishimoto wanted he could've gotten all these power ups in part 1 also.

(This is why you should never use the "irrelevant" point, because everyone is only relevant due to the main character, other wise everyone is irrelevant. )

Kakashi Hatake = relevant

Gokage = relevant

relevant: closely connected or appropriate to the matter at hand.

You want people to be relevant 24/7 in the storyline.. thats not how things are.. In part 1, at the end who was relevant? oh yes NARUTO AND SASUKE..

Part 1 is not over hyped, its just that part 2 is not as bad, or was as bad as people say it is. Everything up to the pain arc was on par with part 1 imo, but everything after was horribly done. Especially the war arc. If it wasn't for Madara or Naruto vs Sasuke, I would have quit the series ages ago.

Meh Kage Summit was awesome too. The bad thing about part 2 is how Kishi failed realising what the whole manga was building up to. A shame really...

You can look up threads about it.

Kurapika's scarlet eyes = sharingan
Kurapika's clan avenging = Sasuke's clan avenging

God speed = sasukes chidori
rock paper scissors = rasengan
etc, etc, etc

Itachi changing his mind

Shikamaru taking on the leadership role

Gaara realizing why his dad did the things he did

Obito's backstory

Nagato's backstory

Kabuto's change throughout part 2

Shall i keep going?

Compared to the shit in part 2... Part 1 development.. is average.

Part 1 was fine.
I'll tell you what's wrong though.
Nastalgia. Same reason a lot of old Pokemon fans hate the new games.
When most of us were little kids naruto seemed so awesome in part 1.
They were these cool ninjas. And there's lee vs gaara. I don't know what people see in this fight. It had no plot relevancy other than lees background as a side character and showing gaaras cruelty etc. was just part of the story with hardly any depth.

But now everything is changed and more mature, so people brand it as bad or getting worse etc.

People are mostly just stuck in the past, with their childhood being too important to them to see it change so much.

That could be a reason, i mean for me, i had a tough time with part 2. But then after Itachi and Jiraiya's death, things got really intersting for me again. Only problem i have had so far is the Kaguya thing, just poorly done.

I agree with the kaguya part.
She was completely unessecary and came from nowhere.

Idea of Naruto was out before.

But the actual Naruto series started after HunterxHunter. And by your logic, the day Kishimoto thought of making Naruto was the time Naruto was out.

I actually went back and read some old part 1 chapters a few months back. Even though Naruto was the main focus, it still seemed like the other side characters had more relevance then than they do now. I think that's what most people are referring to. Fights were good for me cause I prefer the old style of fighting in pt 1 as opposed to pt 2. I can understand that the scalings would change eventually but IMO, the moment Madara came in to play, the scaling started to skyrocket more and more.

But I agree with your opinion to an extent. It is overhyped as people don't see the big picture that makes pt 2 more interesting than part 1. The story comes together more in pt 2 but at times, Kishi is too broad with not enough details at the right spots. But pt 1 was great, Kishi did things differently in pt 1 than pt 2 but that's why we have different opinions on these two separate parts of the manga.

This right here ^ Kami laying down that legit logic again! :win:

Storywise Part II is miles above Part I. It was never the story I had a porblem with as Part II gave us a more active Akatsuki and those memorable moments that really made your jaw drop to the floor in excitinment, amazement, and anticipation. We all knew eventually the power levels would reach this state.

But it isn't the fact that they did. It's the fact that it happened within the span of 1 Arc. And it happened so drastically that other characters in this war became completely irrelevant. The side characters whom we loved and wanted to see how their rivalries, love interestes, and developments went by the wayside so the 6 the OP mentioned could continue to get stronger.

Which backed Kishi in a corner. They became so strong that he had to start bypassing his own "laws of the Narutoverse" and Nerf characters because they became too OP.

But I do agree with the OP Part II is better in Part I overall, but Part I in terms of developments for all characters as a whole is better than Part II. And yes I've read issue 1 until now and not just the anime of part I.

out=/= idea

Its about the idea, not about which came out first. Also, 1 year difference doesn't have credibility of "copied hunterxhunter".

Only the kids had development in part 1 mate.. and of course Zabuza and Haku. Anyone else? nah not really.

You are comparing 200 or so chapters to 400 + chapters, and saying the 200 chapters have more development.. come on now bro.

I think the confusion that many people have is also, the fact Part 2 doesn't solely focus on the kids that were in part 1, but also other people (Ay and Killer B for example. ) Minato and Kushina... and so on. Hashirama, Danzo, Rikudou, Tobirama, Team Asuma, Gai, Kakashi and so on.

Side characters really did get much more development in part one. But you are right that part one is slightly... Overrated, for lack of a better word. I might prefer part one a little myself, but the people who say that part one was perfect and say that shipuuden was awful probably don't realize the power of nostalgia. Everything seems good when you're a kid, and people also tend to look back at the past and say "oh it was so good/much better before". It's hard to remember the little annoying things or minor gripes.

only about 6 people have that high power. not really a "shift" in powerscaling

And you already forgot the Neg diff done by Itachi on Kakashi?
Nah but that's just it Genjutsu was shown to be dangerous with from the beginning then Itachi came along with the introduction of MS, and still he had his limitations.

yea here is the thing people don't realize in my opinion regarding part 1. Part 1 focused on Naruto's youth, it is only logical, that those who are in his age get focused on also. But when people say side characters got more development in aprt 1 than part 2.. i don't get that.. i mean yea the Rookies didn't get that big of a development, but did they need it?

- Pain's huge ass development storyline

- Akatsuki.... the whole relationships between the teams and so on.

- Madara/Obito/Kabuto/Orochimaru

- Kakashi

- Danzo

- Itachi

Part 2 was filled with character development, and going into depth about specific character.

Naruto, Sakura, Sasuke, Konohameru, Shikamaru, Choji, Lee, Neji, Gaara, Hiruzen, Orochiamru, Tsunade, Jiraiya, Minato, Itachi, Kakashi, Obito, Ect, Ect got back stories and depth all the way up to the Pain arc.

I think the reason people prefer part 1 over part 2 is because part 1 stayed consistent with the speed of the strory and power scaling rose steadily and gradually. Part 2 started off nice and Scaling was gradual all until after the Pain Arc. After the Pain Arc, everything got crazy and so many plogt holes started arising. It was like kishimoto at that point begin rushing the story.

I prefer part 1 because it allowed you to fall in love with the characters and watch them grow. Part 2 seemed to be more about who was the strongest and who could reach god level the fastest..

Perfect example of this is orochimaru. In part 1 he was a badass who we knew nobody wanted any part of. His battle against jiraiya and tsunade and Hiruzen was epic in its own right. In part 2 orochimaru isnt even a relevant character, he is just a after thought. Mind you, Orochimaru was the main villain who was suppose to achieve his goal of becoming immortal and creating powerful forbidden jutsu. Now kishimoto summed him up and shut him down by making him state that he abadonned his dream to watch sasuke's life play out. What kind of crap is that. And thats what it seemed like kishimoto did to alot of his characters. In part 1 they were relevant and growing, but in part 2 he just dropped them and started trying to create new OP character (I.E Muu, 3rd Raikage, Hashirama, Madara, Obtio, Ect.)

That's the whole point. this is a coming of age story. We were introduced to K11 all through part one so naturally we begin to pick favorites out of them and we developed a connection with those said favorites. Begining of Part II we still followed their developments as 3 years passed and they are now Teens. The story is about Naruto and his class. The young surpassing the old.

Honestly many of the adults' histories were not really needed.( not that they weren't welcomed) They took much of the panel/screentime from those most of us have already established a connection to forcing us to choose a new favorites. Let me give you an example:

Neji was hyped as much as Sharingan users were in part I. Part II rolled around and he got little to no development. When it came time for his death, it had no real impact. See where I am going with this?

Side characters really did get much more development in part one. But you are right that part one is slightly... Overrated, for lack of a better word. So true XD I can name a few. Those super annoying flashbacks of a jutsu we just saw them use 10 seconds ago. The 5 or 6 pages/minutes of the oppenents mulling over what they just got hit with or evaded before moving again.

And the god awful fillers XD

But I agree with what you posted here.

Part 1 had 235 chapters while part to had about 460 ones. Still many things get cultivated in part 2, the plot was focusing on core of the story instead of side developments barring Akatsuki. The thing is in such long term story in a large universe having focus on specific things a lot more (the Uchiha jizz was close to making me barf) takes the sense of connection and "reality" supposed to be build in said story.

Not a nostalgia thing for me, i started series like 2 years ago still part 1 had a closer feel, it felt like a universe which was growing. But it did not grow expectedly in part 2. Other villages got 1D chapter worth backstories, Akatsuki was a damn good sauce but most did not pass chapter 500.

Honestly i am not even getting into last few arcs esp. Kaguya arc. Outright horrid.

And what's with the "kids fight" definition? I did not get it.

People tend to romanticize the past and seek reasons why the present is worse.
