It can appear in the animal kingdom because some animals are Asexual which means they don't need a specific partner to reproduce, so they can/will have preferences to whichever gender they choose.
It's hard to logically think a member of the human species would be born "Gay" this would mean that there is some dormant "Gay" gene, created by some mutation, which I doubt there is, I'm not a scientist idk.
Just to be clear, by 'some animals are asexual' do you mean individuals within a species or a species as a whole? If the former, then it would imply there is some dormant gene. Idk either, I am bad at science
