You people voted him in why should we (USA) care?
Not all people are from USA. U_U And I don't live in France...

And OT: Due to lack of better alternative, I would still have voted for Holland.
He's no great but he's better than Sarkozy.

Sarkozy is simply a great comedian but that's it. He didn't do shit in 5 years while unemployment rate kept going crescendo. Why should Sarkozy be re-accepted then?

The main problems that interests the general population of France are unemployment rate, general cost of life and impending Euro crisis. Holland was a President 'socialiste' candidate. France doesn't consist of only white rich people. And the general population where there are lots of African-French, Muslims and Blacks obviously no big rich.

Sarkozy primed ideals, elitism, immigration issues & patriotism way too much in his campaign speeches. And besides, the elites and his fervent supporters, few were convinced by him. A President campaign should be one where he convinces more neutrals and that's what Holland did. He talked more about problems that people are sensible right now. He even talked about taxing the richer.

Take Franco-phones islands like La Reunion ect..[where there are few whites]. Unemployment have rocketed there along with cost of life. That's why those islands votes were nearly 85% in favor of Holland. They need changes and it isn't a man who didn't do anything in half-a-decade who'd give it to them.

Basically, this campaign turned into votes between Non-Elites french and the Elites ones. You can barely notice a Black/Muslim (no racial offense please) in a Sarkozy meeting. Sure, there are more Whites in France but the neutrals ones were convinced more by Holland and hence, his victory.

On a side note, as I said earlier on, both aren't great. Holland got zilch experience on occupying a crucial post. Hopefully, he takes up courage do bring changes in his country. The real deal for President was DSK but well, his love for women cost him dear. It wasn't such a big deal but the paid-media made it one. That was corrupted by higher ups IMO - to make sure that he loses all chances in Presidency and ruin his career subsequently. He may not be a life model at all but he was a genius. And his experience could have do wonders for Euro Crisis.

I liked Hollande, avec une e, since the start.

First of all, He's a Socialist. I am inclined towards socialists. I watched a documentary once about him and his life was rather interesting, from his days in SciencesPo to Royal and all, the conclusion came to he would be a good candidate however he has no experience at office.

A french friend of my mother's told me, and Frenchmen know better, that this sort of attention to Sarkozy did not appeal to the Frenchmen. This I-go-to-Petra-and-propose and whatever was not their thing.

My better view of him will clarify once I see what sort of economic policies he will impose.
