even if Naruto getting pierced by katana is lazy writting,though that isnt necesserily true,it is still an indicatation of how kishi thinks of his main character durability ,i mean no way kishi thinks of Naruto durability to be superior to PS if he made a katana pierce him .
with the people logic toneri should be able to cut through even BPS and Ashura avatatr combined since they never tanked something of this range ,in other words toneri can cut through any defence shown in the manga except for KCSM Naruto cloak come on guys really!!?
