It's obvious what's going on. Kishi hyped him and actually intended him to be the best but then changed his mind later. That why Saru didn't show any awesome feats. It's not uncommon. Authors do this all the time.

You failed to understand the context of this thread.

At no point in time was it possible to show anything hiruzen can do.

It wasn't because kishi doesn't give a **** it was the story moving at the pace it should be.

Our desire to see what he can do has nothing to do with what is and what should be shown.

He is not a main or main supporting character.

His place in the story has been met and not all roles deal with showing off how powerful you are.

And kishi doesn't need to twist the story to follow up on previous statements made by other characters just to prove a point.

I don't know. I think Hanzo or the Kin Gin brothers were given more hype even though they are less of a supporting character than Saru is.

He had his chance. Even if Ninjutsu was useless on Obito (keywords: on Obito) he could have provided some support like Tobirama did, something that I would expect from someone who supposedly knows every jutsu in Konoha.
Instead, his choice of jutsu, even before finding out Ninjutsu were useless, were just old stuff we are already knew he was able to do anyway, he didn't get any new feats. On top of that, he misintepreted Juubito's abilities. He said it could be an elemental combo of maybe 4 elements, when it was actually Yin-Yang stuff, and the information he got from his weakness ended up being useless anyway because it didn't play a part on defeating Juubito at all. His sole contribution to the fight was saving Naruto at one point, just to say he did something, that's it.
What do you want us to think of someone with a poor showing like that?

Hiruzen is capable of canceling the summoning of an Edo without having to seal it (a la, the third coffin.)

He is the only character in the series who sealed multiple targets with the Shiki Fujin.

His actions stalled the revival of the Hokages until after the end of the war, in order to combat the Juubi.

His death was the most impactful event in Part 1, and its significance even resonated in part 2.

I can't comprehend how showing a cool, OP Jutsu somehow makes a character better than the other besides strength.
