As the title states, I think Sarutobi will show what he is really capable of.
I don't think Obito had killed him completely.
He's carefully analyzing the situation and will act when appropriate.

Let's discuss what he is capable of:

1. High Level Taijutsu User.

2. Shurikenjutsu

3. Nature Transformation:
Fire Release and Earth Release. Fire Release: Fire Dragon Flame Bullet
Earth Release: Earth Flow River
Earth Release: Earth-Style Wall

4. ENMA


Those are his capabilities.
1. Well as we all read, All of the Shinobis were discussing about some Earth wall or something.
Sarutobi may be very helpful in using his Earth Style and that also with Edo level Chakra.
2. Enma might help deflecting those BMs.
3. Shurikenjutsus.

Maybe when Orochimaru comes back with Karin and Suigetsu, we'll see more of Hiruzen? Since Hiruzen's story revolves around Orochimaru mostly.

Hiruzen is just good at combining jutsus, presenting such fighting ability (shuriken jutsu) as a virtue doesn´s add up. I too think he´s really good at managing a battle, but I´d quit on any hopes of him coming back soon
