I don't understand why people are trying to defend the fact that NH was badly written and half assed. Because it clearly was, so there's no need for damage control.
With that being said, anyone who thinks that NH wasn't planned from the start, given Hinata's concept art and her character role, is simply deluding themselves for whatever personal reason they may have.

You are saying that Sakura deserves better than Sasuke, She deserves Naruto, and if NaruSaku happened Sakura will have a better bf/husband <--- your words.
You are saying that you only care about Hinata, and she deserves better than Naruto, she deserves Sasuke <--- also your words. (This is after you just said that Naruto is better than Sasuke.)

I think it also depends on personal expectations and personal tastes.
Because I became a Hinata-fan BEFORE I became a NaruHina fan.
Therefore, if Naruto is supposed to like the SAME points about Hinata that I do - I'd clearly consider it good-written (cause it looks so to me).
Now the only question remains, whether Naruto's and mine (or those like me, who start as H-fans before becoming NH-fans) tastes differ, and how much exactly.
