Some social groups require a moderator of the group to approve you to gain access to the group. For your awards question you would need to learn the ropes about them. Most of the awards are for the contests, helping NB in a large way or maybe helping them multiple times for a long time. Some of the awards are for specific members because they just wanted to get the awards for themselves or some of the awards are for little events/projects that the admins, mods, smods made to promote something.
