Just caught this when reading manga this morning. Here's some observations.

It confused me at first, because it seemed like Obito hadn't done anything and then magically became the jinchuuriki of the Juubi.

Look closely at the third panel. The Rikudou rods that sprouted out of Obito were suddenly ejected. Obito basically shot them out towards the arrow from Sasuke's Susanoo. That's how Obito defeated Madara's control. In panel 5 we see Madara's face as he realizes he failed. But, he doesn't seem surprised nor concerned about this.

My prediction: Madara is trying to keep Obito on track. He wants him to stay in the darkness. He seems to be angering him on purpose. I don't know why it's important for Obito to stay evil. Madara's true intentions are yet to be revealed, but I think infinite tsukuyomi is not it.

Thanks guys! I think anyone would get confused by that panel, because it almost looks like the rods were Sasuke's arrows flying towards Obito.

I agree. Maybe Madara knows that if you become the jinchuuriki you'll die or be taken over by the Juubi or something? Or maybe he was really pissed but couldn't do anything about it?

I didn't see it that way. I saw it as Madara's will in Obito protecting Rinne Tensei, therefore Obito. He was smiling because he stopped Sasuke from foiling Rinne Tensei. That's how I saw it.

this was my first thought, but i think mikoto senpai's trumps that thought

Nope It is Madara who countered Sasuke's attack..........and it is Minato who stoped Obito from performing RT ......after that Obito freed himself from Madara............

Hmmm...I don't think you're wrong for thinking that, but why does Naruto later say at the end of the chapter, "He managed to prevent Madara from manipulating his body..."

I'll admit it's possible. Not sure :/

Earlier during the Obito flashback, where we find out what happened to him after the boulder incident, that Madara placed his will inside of a black chakra rod piercing the Mazu statue. He tells obito to use this to revive him. At the same time he places his will inside of Zetsu creating Black Zetsu.

So considering that, we can interpret Madara's control in two ways:

1.) He had prepared a chakra rod of his will inside of the Zetsu body that he attached to Obito as a kid, so he could awaken his own will inside of Obito at the appropriate time.

2.) He's using chakra transmission to control Obito, similar to how Pain tried to control Naruto in his, uh, tree house?

Another thing that's confusing about all this is that the Rinne Tensei clearly happened, because Obito's hair turns fully white. It at least went as far as drawing out his life force to near or almost death. So, how did he seal the Juubi? Maybe it was easier to do, since the Jubbi was confined by Hashirama and edo-kages?

Well I say he used izanagi, that's why he's covering his left eye.

Good thinking! You could be right, this was a dire situation after all. I don't think it's clear what the limits of izanagi are at this point. It has been described by itachi as allowing the user to have only the outcomes of a moment that they desire. Example, you ask for a bigmac, mcdonalds employee says they're all out, you're mad, then sacrifice your right eye for that bigmac. One thing that makes me question Obito using izanagi is that, he wasn't shown all healed standing somewhere else becoming the jinchuuriki, and trolling Minato and Sasuke. That's how Danzo rolled. Instead he was on the ground talking while half-dead. Doesn't mean he didn't use izanagi, but for now I don't think we can know.
