hey guys, so lately my laptops been giving me a hell of alot of trouble. To start i have a Alienware m14x which i think i got in 2011 2012, i can't remeber exactly, when i first got it i was able to download and play ANY MMORPG and play it without any lagg and it would run smooth as anything. Even when i'd play skyrim it'd run real smooth.

Now as of late iv'e been having problems because it seems that whatever i play just laggs, like really badly lags. So i wanna know what i can do to check and make sure everything is running at its best. Iv'e checked all my specs for the games i am playing and my laptop appears to go above and beyond the recommended, but even when i play these games on the lowest possible settings im still lagging insanely. My internet connection is a nice 600-1mb p/s so it's not my connections. So yeah i just wanna know what i can do, iv'e done the usual system clean virus scan removal of useless space takers on my laptop, but i just don't know what to do to make it so i can play games without lag, so yeah any help is greatly appreciated thanks

For laptops, make sure it's running on High Performance when you play games, when your laptop goes on Power Saver setting, it favors energy in exchange for performance. Just go to Control Panel and type 'power', then go to Power Options and make sure it's on the right setting. Also, make sure it's plugged in when you play.

If that doesn't fix it, then try going to Task Manager and look under Start-up for processes you don't need. ( These processes start running when you log in, such as your antivirus )

download ccleaner (yes two c's) then after you do that ope your task manager and shut off applications that ay be running and taking up ram, next open up msconfig and under the startup tab make sure you dont have any applications running while starting up cause this will eat up your ram also and make it sluggish OH! clear out you internet cache also. or you can skip all that and upgrade your ram for a fair ammount of cash. hope this helps.

Well, High Performance is always the best, and your games will run smoother, just put it on high whenever you play games, and put it back whenever you're done.

And yeah, ctrl+alt+del and the task manager should pop up, some day ( might take some time ), can you see a tab called Start-up somewhere? If you click it, you'll see all kinds of programs that automatically run when you start your laptop, you might want to disable some of these if you've never done so.

As a third step, have you ever defragmented your hard drive? It's very good to increase your loading times and potentially your framerate. It's a built-in windows function so no third-party software is needed, although some are better.

I use Auslogics Disk Defrag, but Advanced System Care is probably just as good. Pretty easy process, if you're still confused, just look on Google what defragging is.

And, did you click on 'More Details' ? Sorry, I forgot since I always have it this way.

if start up isnt on your task manager then do this: on your desktop open up your start tab, click on the program "run", type "msconfig" then hit enter on your keyboard, a window with multiple tabs should pop up, click on the tab that says "startup."

how much ram do you have, if you do not have much and you have applications and programs running in the background that could be the problem. Get more ram if its a laptop then its DDR3

With the given info, I think you have a ram memory problem bro but the strange thing about it, if it's alienware, it's supposed to last a lifetime.
Why don't you try doing ram memory test.

Try using Gboost.Mabye you have recently downloaded a program that makes your games lag or takes too much power from your laptop.
Gboost turns off a lot of background programs you don't use.Its free and you have the option to see what you are turning off and if you want it off.
