Chapter 1: Encounter
A tall, blonde, and blue-eyed guy is walking along the paved sidewalk – which leads to the gates of the Konoha Musical University. Wearing the standard KMU uniform (white polo with KMU’s emblem embroidered on the right side shoulder and semi loose slacks for guys; white fitted polo with KMU’s emblem embroidered on the left side shoulder and a black, pleated, knee-length skirt for the ladies) and a guitar slung on his back, Namikaze Minato walked slowly, relishing the cool October breeze.
“Classes started exactly a month ago, and I still never get tired of this.” Minato dreamily sighed.
Minato tends to get up early in the morning for school, so that he can take his time walking to his beloved university. As he walks, Minato could see from the corner of his eyes, merchants setting up for their daily businesses and customers of various age waiting for the shops to open. He stopped walking and looked back at the merchants setting up. Konoha is such a busy place full of people bustling throughout the city, but it can be quite quiet early in the morning.
“That’s why I love walking so early. Getting up in an unhumanly time is worth it I guess. It’s so peaceful.” Minato smiled.
He remained standing for awhile and finally decided to get a move-on. He took one last glance at the open shops, “I better get moving or I might be late,” Minato thought, and proceeded with his trek to the university. While walking, Minato gave a quick look at his watch to check what time it is. His yellow digital watch indicates that it’s five minutes to eight ( 7:55 A.M.). Class starts at eight. Minato couldn’t help but to gape as he scanned his watch for the umpteenth time, hoping that he had been mistaken. Much to his dismay, the third digit of the watch turned into “6”. The watch now states 7:56. “Holy shit, I think I walked too slow today. I’m going to be tardy for sure.” Minato inwardly cursed. Contemplating for a few moments, Minato decided that running to the univeristy would be the best remedy for him to not be really late. Having a fit body, Minato sprinted along the streets with ease. He ran as fast possible, resembling a yellow and black blur.
The vocalist sprinted along the sidewalk and the streets for 2 more blocks and finally reached his destination – the university. “ I hope I’m not that late. Professor Sarutobi is pretty strict about attendance, and often gives out punishment to those who comes late.” Minato thought. He stopped by the university’s cemented wall to take a breath. Running for 2 blocks straight isn’t an easy feat after all. After resting, Minato sprinted for the second time heading to the white tall buliding, where his class is located. He reached the with buliding in a matter of minutes and ran to his class. As he was running inside the prestigious buliding , Minato didn’t notice that there was someone in his way and couldn’t help to bump into that person. Thud. The unplanned physical contact between Minato and the mystery person caused both of them to move a few paces back.
“Aargh, my head hurts.” Minato groaned.
“You think you’re the only one who’s hurt? Well guess again, Blondie.” A feminine voice filled with venom retaliated.
Minato searched for the venom filled voice and saw a girl with long fiery red hair that goes below her slender waist and wearing the KMU uniform for girls a few feet across him. He saw that the girl was glaring with much intesity that Minato started to believe the saying, “Looks can kill”, or something like that. The girl’s dark slate eyes met Minato’s own cerulean orbs and he could feel the air becoming tighter. Despite the girl’s glare, He couldn’t help to observe the girl. Her slender face, her dark red hair. Minato noticed the orange child-like barrette that keeps her long hair covering her face. “She’s quite cute even though she’s glaring at me with daggers.” Minato thought. He snapped from his reverie, and realized that he was on the floor. He also realized that the girl was on the floor as well. Being the gentleman he is, Minato stood up and lend a hand to the girl.
“I’m really sorry for bumping into you and making you fall down. I was running recklessly. Gomenasai.” Minato confessed.
The girl refused to hold his hands and stood up on her own. “ You not only bumped into me and caused me to fall down on the floor,” She then looked at something behind her, “ You made me drop my instrument and now it’s broken ‘ttebane!” She roared.
Minato looked at the place she was looking at and saw the broken traditional instrument lying on the marbled floor. The girl glared at him more. “How am I suppose to perform today with a broken instrument? Biwako-sensei is going to kill me.” She said the last part to herself. The red-head crouched down to get the instrument while muttering some curses. Minato didn’t hear all, but he was pretty sure she said “Idiotic blonde” and “S.O.B” at some parts. Minato glanced at his watch. 8:14 it stated. “Now I’m really late. Classes are starting for about 15 minutes now. Guess, I’ll ask Shikaku to fill me in later,” Minato crouched down as well so that he can be leveled with the girl. “But nevermind that. I still have this to deal with.” He thought.
“Look I’m really sorry. I didn’t mean to break your instrument. I can try fix it since I’m pretty decent at fixing musical instruments. Your instrument is a Japanese-style guitar, and I’m familiar with it. I can still find a way to fix it if you want me to.” Minato offered. The red-head no longer glared at him, and instead stared at him speechless. She then took her broken instrument with her long slender arms. “I don’t need your help.” She said rather darkly. The red-head then stood up and walked away from Minato while carrying her instrument.
Minato was surprised by the girl’s abrupt change of tone in her voice and attitude. At first, she was like a mother hen nagging, then she became…quiet. She didn’t raise her voice anymore when Minato offered her help, nor did she make a comeback. Due to his shock, Minato didn’t get the chance to stop the girl from leaving. Looking at his surroundings, Minato scanned for the red-head. “I didn’t get to know her name, let alone to introduce myself. I need to repay her somehow.” He mentally scolded himself. It was his fault that the instrument was broken. She might be in trouble because of him. When she saw no sign of the red-head, Minato reluctantly go to his class.
“Damn, is Sarutobi going to make me feed his monkey for my punishment?” Minato thought of his Professor’s chimpanzee pet, Enma. The light brown ape descendant might be small, but hell can it drive anyone (except Sarutobi) crazy with its antics. Minato couldn’t help suppress a shudder. Partly because of the punishment awaiting him, but it's mostly because of a certain red-head.
