Hashiwara

Having been used as a region for the distilling and brewing of various alcoholic beverages and products, Hashiwara, under the control of Solanaceae, has been turned into the central hub of tradeable services and domestic goods that has not necessarily been deemed as products that served a purpose in the Degarashan and other international marketplaces. Simply put, it is a sort of communal market that offers services such as local culinary cuisine, various therapies and clinics, as well as recreational entertainment, such as taverns, hostelries, and much more.

Coming from

Finally, Ryuu arrived at the next village, which was his, as well as the trader's next destination. Wiping the sweat off his forehead with his sleeve, the boy looked questioningly at the man, who told Ryuu to keep going till they reached the heart of the city. Although Ryuu wanted to go off and do things on his own now, he was compliant enough, but only because Marcus was giving him a mini tour of the land, and that could possibly benefit him. He learned that this place was called Hashiwara, and that it was famous for its alcoholic beverages. Not like he cared though, considering he was a child and so did not drink.

Still dragging his wheelbarrow around, Ryuu took in the sights around him; a rather lively place, with a lot of farms visible. It had a nice balance; although it seemed very civilised, there was also a great deal of nature around. After some time, the pair reached what Ryuu thought to be the heart of the village, since there were lots of stalls everywhere, and the number of people in such a small space was shocking to the boy. He stayed close to Marcus, hoping not to lose him in the crowd. Then, before he knew it, Marcus was beckoning him over to an empty stall that stood in between two others. Ryuu understood that this was where the man was going to sell his goods, as he was already starting to take things out of the wheelbarrow and placing them on the long white tables available in the stall. Ryuu did the same, and when he was finally finished, the man thanked him for his help and even gave him a fancy watch as gratitude, which Ryuu accepted.

By the way, I don't think I asked for your name yet... A lad as helpful as you deserves to have it spread around.

Ryuu was glad that he was being seen as an individual now rather than as just a tool. Taking out his notebook, he wrote "Ryuu Hyūga of the Kaizen clan. I would rather you remember the name of my clan instead of my own name". And with that, the boy nodded and walked off, as the man gave him his word that he would remember his clan. It was time to explore some areas on his own now.

This post marks the beginning of my mission using these storyboard elements:
Show the people of your landmark the merits of your Clan (2)
Protect children from from the risen dead that have escaped Chungsu (2)

Summary: Ryuu has just started to explore this village, when all of a sudden, some strange zombies enter the place. Everyone runs to escape, however, some children are too slow, and so Ryuu saves them from the zombies. However, he hesitates in doing so, as he recognises one of the zombies. Once the zombies are gone, Ryuu heals some injured people.

Ryuu walked through the market place, slowing down every now and then to observe some interesting item, before moving on. He also noticed that the village appeared to be very lively, with children everywhere, and decorations adorning the place. There were pumpkins carved out in different shapes, and the boy also noticed some children in costumes. Finally he realised; it was that time of the year again. Halloween! The air was full of excitement, and soon Ryuu found himself grinning too. He thought it was going to be fun dressing up and trying to scare people, as well as try to get as much candy as he could. Although he was a ninja, he was still a kid at heart, after all.

Lost in thought, Ryuu was surprised when all of a sudden, he heard sounds of alarm in the distance, a bit too far to be in his line of sight. What was that? Looking around, Ryuu noticed that others had also heard the sounds from the distance, and they were all looking at each other worriedly now, murmuring. There was something clearly wrong here. So without thinking too much, the boy started running in the direction of the sounds, activating his Byakugan at the same time. The worried villagers watched him run off, and some attempted to follow him, although he was faster than most.

(Dōjutsu: Byakugan) Eye Technique: The All Seeing White Eye
Type: Supplementary
Rank: C
Range: Short-Long
Chakra: 15 (+5 per turn to keep active)
Damage: N/A
Description: The kekkei genkai intrinsic to both the Hyūga and Ōtsutsuki clans—descendants of Kaguya Ōtsutsuki. Those who possess this dōjutsu have it manifested as eyes with featureless white irides and no visible pupils. And when activated, the pupils become more distinct and the veins near their temples bulge. To activate the dōjutsu, Hyuga but not Ōtsutsuki clan members are initially obliged to use a rather long and specific sequence of handseals: Horse → Tiger → Boar → Hare → Rat → Dog → Horse → Dog → Hare → Rat → Boar → Snake. But once activated, the dōjutsu user is endowed with a range of skills.

To start, an activated Byakugan gives the user a near 360º diameter field of vision bar one blind spot at the back of the neck, above the first thoracic vertebra. Its vision can penetrate through any solid objects or obstructions, and likewise remains unaffected by blinding interferences. But that being said, certain barriers and the like may distort its perception. In addition, it is able to follow high-speed movements, which enables those with this dōjutsu to analyze their foes' actions and better react to them. The Byakugan is also able to see chakra to a higher degree than the Sharingan and ergo, identify where a person's chakra signature originates from. Beyond that, it can discern certain types of clones from the real person. And its ability to see chakra is in fact so acute that those who possess this dōjutsu are even able to see the chakra pathway system and the 361 tenketsu that comprise it. The Hyūga clan has gone so far as to develop their unique Gentle Fist style in order to capitalize on this particular ability.

Note: Hyuga clan bios of at least Sannin rank become able to passively activate their dōjutsu upon one month having passed since Gentle Fist training concluded. Ōtsutsuki bios never need to expend a move in order to activate it.
Note: While traversing the NW, bios with activated Byakugan are able to see up to two 2 adjacent landmarks away while those of sage rank can see as far as three away, but this doesn't extend beyond an ocean landmark.
Upon activating his Byakugan, the boy was surprised to see a crowd of villagers running away frantically in all directions from the source of their terror. In the middle of it all, Ryuu spotted what appeared to be ten human-like figures. On close inspection, they looked a bit weird though. By this time, the Hyūga had managed to reach the people. He now realised why the people in the middle looked so strange. With his Byakugan, he could see that there was no blood or chakra flow in them; they were dead, but moving... or rather, they were zombies. Was this part of the village's festivities? His question was soon answered, when he saw one of the zombies reach out and strike a man on the temple with his fist, knocking the innocent villager out. The man had simply appeared to have been protecting a woman besides him, who now screamed in terror as the man besides her fell to the ground. Clearly, this was not an aspect of festivity. It was real.

Ryuu immediately sprang into action, going after the zombies that had managed to scatter around a bit. Running towards the closest group of zombies, which consisted of five of them, the boy manipulated chakra within his body, breathing out a large fireball from his mouth, sending it towards the zombies. As it reached them, they appeared to turn to Ryuu as if they wanted to attack him, but they were met with only death as the fire engulfed them fully, killing them.

(Katon: Gōka no Jutsu) - Fire Release: Hellfire Technique
Type: Offensive
Rank: A
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra: 30
Damage: 60
Description: The user will manipulate their chakra and breath out from their mouth a large fireball that travels at the opponent. As it reaches the opponent it bursts into a maelstrom of fire engulfing them in flames.
However, there were still more. Noticing a group of three zombies this time, appearing to chase a crowd of people, Ryuu ran over swiftly, and upon getting closer to them, he emitted chakra from his fingers, materialising a sharp blade around the heads of the zombies. He proceeded to move the almost invisible blades, causing the heads of the zombies to be chopped off cleanly. After falling off the bodies, Ryuu was disgusted to note that the eyes rolled in the backs of the heads before dying fully.

(Fūton: Kaze No Yaiba) - Wind Style: Wind Blade
Type: Offensive
Rank: A
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra: 30
Damage: 60
Description: This technique is a pinpoint slashing strike, where the user emits chakra from their fingertips and materialises it into an near invisible weapon that assaults the enemy in a gust of wind. If the Sickle Weasel Technique can be regarded as a swarm of small wind kunai, then this technique is akin to a virtually unavoidable long sword which can leave the target's body mutilated. Just being in close proximity to the technique can cause minor cuts. The wind blades can be created and thrown, like projectiles, in rapid succession, although in this case, each one weaker than the single use application. The technique cannot be blocked by physical weapons and is insanely fast by not relying on the use of Hand seals but, because it still requires the user to perform hand gestures to use and is somewhat visible in the effect it produces, it can still be defended against by using appropriate evasion techniques or fast elemental ninjutsu.
Looking around, Ryuu did not immediately see any more zombies, so he assumed that was all. However, another scream of terror told him that that was not the case. Turning his head, he noticed that many of the villagers had fled to a safe enough distance away now, and were watching Ryuu fight the zombies, as well as a few children who had lagged behind. It appeared that a child had fallen on the ground in the rush, and two of his friends were trying to help him. However, as they were doing so, the two remaining zombies reached the trio, and one of them kicked a little girl onto the floor. The poor child clutched her stomach, writhing around in pain. The other zombie had picked up the boy trying to help his friend up, and was shaking him around violently. Ryuu thought the child's limbs may fall off any second. Without hesitation, Ryuu rushed over to attack the two zombies from behind. First of all, in order to get the zombie shaking the child violently to stop, Ryuu got a kunai and threw it at the dead man, piercing his back. The zombie dropped the child, who landed on his bum, before turning around to see what had hit him. At around the same time, the other zombie also noticed something was up, and started turning around too.

Ryuu had just been about to attack the both of them, when all of a sudden, he stopped in his tracks. For the second zombie who had just turned around caught Ryuu's attention. Frozen, he stared wide-eyed at the zombie, unblinking. A flash of anger and grief rushed through him as he realised what was happening. Someone had made the dead become alive again, and now, an old friend stood before him. A young Hyūga who had passed away during the Kyūbi attack, one who would frequently play with Ryuu, who he had been very fond of. Now he stood before him, a painful reminder of his death. Whilst Ryuu had been staring, the two zombies started growling at him, looking as if they wanted to attack. Ryuu felt very hurt; how could his old friend be doing this? Of course, he realised that he was dead, and that it was not his idea to become alive (kind of) again. But even though Ryuu knew he was not real, he did not have the heart to attack the zombie who was once his friend.

Couldn't he just leave him be? Perhaps he could even try to revive his friend through medical ninjutsu, as he had now learnt it. Surely that would be easier than killing him. Crazy ideas were racing through Ryuu's mind, ideas on how to save his once friend, and he did not even realise the absurdity of them. He was too engrossed and shocked at his friend. However, upon hearing a cry of alarm in the kids direction again, Ryuu woke back up and realised that the zombies had grown bored of him, and were about to start attacking the children again. Ryuu shook his head, clearing his thoughts back up and feeling stupid for letting himself get carried away like that. Immediately, he ran towards the two zombies and darted in between the zombies and the children. One of them had been ready to punch a child, and Ryuu firmly caught his fist and hurled his body a few metres away. He was left with his old friend in front of him now.

As difficult as it was, Ryuu knew that he had to let his old friend rest in peace one more time. To try and keep him alive in this state would be to dishonour him. Ryuu did not want to have any such bad memories of him like that, although this encounter did already do some damage in his mind in terms of how he now thought of his friend. Unfortunately, it was a bit tainted. The zombie who once used to be his friend clearly had no memories of his time when he was alive; his eyes were empty, and showed no recognition of the boy. He then even put his hand up, attempting to strike Ryuu. Ryuu, in return, tried to fight back tears which now streamed down his face, whilst performing a hand seal. An orb of water was created, from which Ryuu sent sharp whips of water into his old friend's chest, as well as into that of the other zombie who had gotten up and was now approaching. The water impaled the targets, killing the zombies. As his clan mate's body hit the ground, unmoving, Ryuu was full of sadness, but he knew this was the right thing to have done. Although he wold have loved to have his friend back again, he knew it was not possible. What he had to focus on was saving the next generation. Unfortunately, his friend's time had already come to pass, and so he had to move on. His mind was still a little numb though as he saw the body just laying there. Then, he shook himself out of it, and turned around to see if the children were alright. The girl was still clutching her stomach and the other two children were visibly shaken. Everyone else watched him curiously from the distance, so quiet as if they were holding their breath. Perhaps they did not know what to make of him...

Suiton: Suiryūben) - Water Style: Water Dragon Whip
Type: Offensive
Rank: B
Range: Short-Long
Chakra: 20
Damage: 40
Description: After performing the Tiger handseal, the user creates an orb of water from which several sharp whips of water emerge. Those whips can then be directed towards one or multiple targets, impaling them on impact.

Ryuu looked back at the crowd staring at him. He wondered if they were judging him. He was a newcomer here, and so they had no idea who he was. Were they afraid of him now, after seeing him so easily destroy the zombies? Ryuu sighed internally, before kneeling down to come to the same level as the three children. The girl appeared to be in pain, and so Ryuu checked her body through his Byakugan. It appeared to be fine internally, however, there was some bruising on her skin. Patting her head gently to let her know he was helping her, Ryuu lifted her shirt up enough to expose her stomach, before focusing chakra into his hands. A greenish aura of chakra appeared on his right hand then, and Ryuu placed it just above the girls stomach, healing it. At this point, he could hear many curious murmurs in the crowd, whilst the children looked at him in awe. Clearly they had never met a medical ninja before. Once he was done, the girl got up, surprised that her stomach no longer hurt. Still in shock, the three children said nothing though.

Instead, it was the crowd that first spoke. Ryuu heard many cheers erupt, and realised that they were not scared of him after all. When they realised that he was a medical ninja, all the people who had gotten injured came forward, some with cuts, some with bruises. And then there was the man who had been hit in the head and was still unconscious. He was dragged over to Ryuu, who willingly worked on him. By the end of it all, Ryuu had healed everyone that came to him, and villagers were all around him, cheering for him, and wanting to talk to him. In between all this, he even heard a woman exclaim that they were going to make a banquet for him. Obviously, Ryuu must have looked rather dazed, because no one questioned why he was not speaking. They probably all assumed that he was just too tired.

Finally, someone asked the boy who he was, and where he came from. Ryuu was about to take his notebook out to write his answer down, when all of a sudden, a familiar figure appeared besides him; Marcus. Looking very proud to be next to him, the man beamed at the audience and spoke, seeming to be very happy at being able to speak for the boy. Ahem, well actually... This is Ryuu, from the Kaizen clan. I am not sure where exactly he came from, but everybody remember him and his clan! Marcus continued, telling them how he was mute, and also for them to give him some breathing room. Ryuu let out a little smile, at the fact that Marcus was taking his job of telling the world about Kaizen so seriously. It seemed that Ryuu would not have to worry about advertising his clan, for his new friend was quite good at that. Soon, all eyes were on him, and Ryuu realised that the villagers were idolising his new acquaintance for having a link with him. The villagers were obviously very enthusiastic about having Ryuu with them. Tired from fighting off the zombies and healing so many people though, Ryuu's head started to swim, and before he knew it, he was losing consciousness. The last thing he remembered was the face of his old Hyūga clan mate in his head, the one he could never save...

(Iryō Ninjutsu: Shōsen Jutsu) - Medical Technique: Mystic Palm Technique
Type: Supplementary
Rank: S
Range: Short
Chakra: N/A (2x the amount of damage healed)
Damage: N/A
Description: This medical ninjutsu allows the user to speed up the body's natural healing process by focusing chakra onto their hands, forming an aura of greenish chakra which he then sends into a wound or afflicted body part. This allows the user to heal a patient without the need for medical equipment or surgery, making it very useful on the battlefield. It can be used to treat both external and internal injuries. It is vital to match the amount of chakra used to the severity of the affliction or injury. This requires a great amount of chakra control. Because of this, only a few highly skilled medical-nin are able to use this technique. The limitation of the technique is that it cannot regrow missing body parts or remove with poisons or toxins, though it can heal damage by them. Additionally, perhaps its more severe drawback is the chakra cost, which is much higher than any other medical technique. For each damage point the user of the technique wishes to heal, he needs to spend twice as much chakra. Basically, for x amount of damage the user needs to spend 2x amount of chakra to repair/heal. The user can also use this technique on himself and it can be used with one hand or two and even in two targets at a time or while using another technique with the other hand. The speed of the healing is fast but not instant.
Note: Can be used on up to 2 targets.
Note: Can only be used by Medical Ninja.

This post marks the beginning of my mission using these storyboard elements:
Participate in a Conqueror's End feast with a village (1)

Summary: Ryuu wakes up from a nightmare triggered by the day's events, before joining a feast that the village has prepared.

Shadows loomed over him as he ran frantically through the dark forest. Hands connected to zombie-like bodies reached out to him. One of the faces, always that of his dead friend. Closing in slowly; dark shadows. No matter how fast he ran, they still remained. Soon, multiple hands reached out to him, enveloping him, drowning him in darkness. He desperately reached his hand out...

Ryuu sat up with a jolt, drenched in sweat. Oh right, it was just a nightmare. He was sitting awake in a bed now, looking dazed, not even noticing a little girl looking worriedly at him from beside the bed. He did not even notice her run out of the room, as if to call someone. He only remembered his dream right now, and it frustrated him. Why did those zombies come here? Where did they even come from? Ryuu was just about ready to jump out off the bed and go find the source of this trouble, before loud footsteps could be heard, and a beaming voice right after it. Well, well, look who's awake! We were just about to sta-. Just then, Marcus's face became visible as he walked in through the door, and he stopped upon seeing Ryuu. By God, you look as if a lion was just about to eat you! The little girl, who Ryuu recognised as the one he had earlier saved, looked up at Marcus now and exclaimed indignantly, as if he had not believed her before, See, I told you he was moving his arms and legs around so much when he was sleeping! They continued to banter, and Ryuu felt a little more at ease. It appeared he was in a cosey little room with cute little curtains and a pink bed, one that was a little small for him. Upon scanning the room, he realised it must belong to this little girl. Her family must have taken him in for a while as gratitude for saving their daughter.

Marcus turned from talking to the girl to addressing Ryuu now. Well anyways, you passed out after saving this one here, and we figured you must have just been tired after all that. Fair enough. Ryuu nodded. But now that you're up, let's party! Ryuu did not even have time to say no, or that he wanted to go and figure out what was going on and that he did not have time for any of this, before Marcus enthusiastically grabbed him by the wrist and made him leap out of bed. Then the man practically dragged the boy over to a bathroom, and shoved him inside. Okay quickly shower and get ready now. There's a fresh change of clothes for you in there too. People are already arriving! He gave Ryuu a wink, before shutting the door. Ryuu thought that Marcus must have been eagerly waiting for him to wake up to have prepared all this already.

Soon enough, Ryuu was clean and in a new change of clothes, which had a Conqueror's End theme to it. Of course, Marcus was waiting not too far away, and quickly whisked him out of the house. After a few minutes, they arrived at a large hall, heavily decorated on the outside, and when they walked in, Ryuu could see that the decorations extended to the inside as well. Many people were present, probably the whole village, and they were all dressed in similar outfits to him. A lot of chatter could be heard, and Ryuu tried hiding behind Marcus as too many people came in different waves to greet him, to whom he would just nod. One excited person even exclaimed, You know, we do a feast like this every year on Conqueror's End. We were actually going to do this tomorrow, but since what happened today was very important, we decided to make it tonight to make it a celebration about you too. The man smiled broadly and went off on his way, leaving Ryuu a bit overwhelmed. To think they wanted to honour him this much, it was all too much for the boy. He did not exactly like all the attention he was given; he preferred to stick with Marcus so he could talk for him too. And Marcus did not seem to mind anyway; he loved the attention he was getting because of Ryuu.

Of course, being a kid magnet for reasons even unknown to him, a large crowd of children also took their opportunity to approach Ryuu during the feast, asking him too many questions and just chattering away. They did not even seem to realise that all of them talking at once would mean that he would understand none of them. Still, he nodded his head at them, and tried to make different expressions, appearing as if he was interested and understood everything they said.

The feast consisted of a lot of food, especially rice dishes, potatoes and bread-based food. Of course, there was also a lot of wine, which this village was famous for. Although Marcus seemed to enjoy every sip of it, Ryuu dared not take any, given he was still a child. He only looked at Marcus as if he was queer, which the man did not seem to notice. Ryuu was happy that this was an informal event; had it been formal, with him having to go up and do something, he was not so sure he could have handled it. Soon, everyone finished their meals, but the chatting continued for quite some time.

Ryuu, who finally got bored of the adult's chatter, went over to a corner where he could see a group of children attempting to do what looked like playing ninjas. Amused, he silently observed them, realising that they were re-enacting the scene from today. Some of them were pretending to be zombies, and others the villagers and children. Then one little boy impersonated Ryuu, cutely managing to pretend-defeat all the zombies, before whirling around and noticing Ryuu. By this time, Ryuu was internally laughing, and the kids, seeing him smile, started laughing. Soon, Ryuu was actually playing along with them, but the feeling of unease as to where these zombies came from never left his mind...

After a few hours, people decided they were tired enough to leave then, and slowly, villagers started trickling out of the hall. Most of them shook his hand or waved to him before leaving. Ryuu was one of the last ones left, as he was waiting on Marcus, who appeared to be enjoying talking to a senior man, who looked like the leader around here. Noticing Ryuu looking, the old man called him over. Ah, young lad, come over here for a bit! Ryuu hesitantly walked over, hoping this would not be lengthy. I heard you are from the Kaizen clan eh? Well, your clan is welcome here whenever! And if there is anything you need, just let me know. Then he hugged Ryuu, who felt so happy that his clan was being accepted to more and more villages. Also, I heard that you're leaving soon. Good luck on your travels son! Ryuu nodded, before waiting on Marcus for a bit more as he continued to talk to the man.

Finally, they went back to the house they came from, where Ryuu spent the night. Gathering his belongings in the morning, Ryuu waved Marcus and the little girl farewell, before going on his way. Activating his Byakugan again, he scanned the area ahead of him to see if he could spot his clan mates. Sure enough, the Hyūga managed to catch sight of Astra in a busy area somewhere ahead of him, and so he decided to head there.
