We celebrate it because that's the day that our founding fathers signed the Declaration of Independence. And basically it's when the United States was "born" or declared it's independence from Great Britain.

because it was this day some time in the 1700"s that amaerica was born ( the founding fathers signs some paper of indenpence freeing the 13 colines from the brithish i think i might have my facts wrong)

The part everyone forgets is the Declaration of independence .... declared independence today, but didn't officially become independent 'til a few years after... That's why I think independence day should be when we really were independent!
