Yes, Hanzo is very underrated.

This is a man that beat the Sannin, a team of at least Kakashi-level shinobi whom were famed not for their individual power, but for their flawless teamwork. And they in turn became famous for not winning against Hanzo, but surviving, and his words weighed so heavily that everyone regarded them as the Sannin ever since.

He embarrassed Mifune, the leader of the samurai, and once had the power to defeat Pein.

People are only considering Hanzo as he was shown in the war against the Shogun Mifune, and he was weakened and never got a chance to use any jutsus.

So basically until Mifune fights someone else that has feats and is impressive, everyone will remain to look down on Hanzo.

It's views like this which hold Hanzo down...

Hanzo was old and weaker when Pein killed him, in his pajamas in his home none the less.

Pein said that Hanzo wasn't as powerful as he used to be, Hanzo lost his convictions and his skills waned from years of isolation. Pein also said that Hanzo used to be powerful enough to have defeated him.

When Hanzo was resurrected, he was resurrected in his weakened state. Mifune also commented that Hanzo was not as powerful as the man that whooped him all those years ago, noticing that he lost his edge.

I completely forgot he was resurrected so I'm definitely wrong about him being alive but all the points you made were right

He's no underrated. Danzo got free of Edo Tensei ALONE. This is a feat and not easy one.

And plus he's one of the best written character of the serie.

I think he's one of the most underrated ninja out there probably because we've never seen him fight but he's not a legend for no reason. Also he's still alive so hopefully we get to see something from him in the future
Funniest thing i ever seen on NB by far.

Hanzo is underrated simply because poison is underrated aswell. Hanzo himself is a poison, and his summon can do the same. He only lost to mifune because he resisted the edo tensei enough to halt kabutos control.

Indeed, Hanzo was a living biohazard. Every inch of him, even his breath, was poisonous.

Hanzo also showed great taijutsu skill and speed, mastery of weapons which are coated in poison, and he also seems to be a master of the basics as shown with his Body Flicker and masterful use of Exploding Seals. He has Katon and likely possesses Suiton, as he is stronger in water.

His Salamanders are suited for combat on land or in the water, they have also shown to be quick burrowers, and can belch a football field of poison every 5 minutes. Their mouths are also basically execution chambers, swallowing you up and gassing you. In addition to that, they possess perhaps elephantine strength and endurance or greater due to their size.

While what he has shown is limited, it is still very impressive for those that are more impressed with substance.

P.S. I wonder what his AoE attack was going to be against the Samurai, since he intended to kill them all before Mifune intercepted his handseal.
