In my opinion, Kishi should have killed of zabuza like he did, but kept haku alive. Haku developing past the thought process that he is zabuzas tool would have been awesome to witness and some of the best development in the series

I've seen several good fanfictions where Haku survives the Wave Arc and goes to Konoha with Team 7. But sadly, Haku's death/sacrifice was just a means to have Naruto change his outlook on the ninja world.
