I don't think thats smoke, thats just his fist covered in haki while its being propelled by the smoke

That's exactly what it is. Even his forearm can't even turn into smoke because it's solid.

Shows every other person in the manga. Every devil fruit user that emits matter-like powers never covered it in Haki. WB never used haki quakes on aokiji, aokiji never used haki covered ice, and kizaru never used haki covered lasers for a reason.
He had to use seastone cuffs for a reason.
Buso haki materializes matter.

If that was the case, Zoro's flying slash wouldn't have cut Monet, it'd have done blunt damage. If Zoro's slash could keep its cutting properties, there's no reason fire couldn't keep its heat, or ice its cold, or Kizaru's light its piercing and explosive properties.

Whitebeard threw quakes at Aokiji and it did nothing. He had to stop him with his Haki covered bisento.
For Akainu he had to cover his hands in Haki to land those attacks, as for the quakes themselves they remained normal with no Haki imbued in them.

Projectiles that come from devil fruits can't be covered in haki, other wise people can throw buso Haki at each other out of thin air.

It just seems odd to think The Gura Gura has no impact against a logia user.

Blame that on Oda not on WB.

If WB was in part 2 he would haki the shit out of everbody, but his fate was to showcase his skills in hakiless part 1 of the series. maybe in the entire war the word haki was dropped twice not in relation to Luffy's CoC blast.
