Currently, I'm at 140s (still a long way to go (;) )
Well, while reading around 130-140s something clicked about this manga and the mangaka. I'm not sure if it's true or not.
Around these chapters, Ippo's Mom gets hospitalized due to exhaustion/overwork and Ippo had to take up the business responsibilities and came up with a decision to quit boxing. That time, his high school friend, Umezawa shows up to help Ippo and himself for his career. Umezawa plans to become a mangaka and wanted to make a boxing manga.

I thought, the mangaka of Ippo might also had somewhat similar fate but not exactly same as in the manga. The number of chapters talks a lot about his(mangaka's) love for Boxing.
Am I right?
By the way, why isn't there a separate section for Hajime no Ippo?

Umezawa is supposedly the mangaka of HnI, indeed. Atleast, in the storyline he represents just that. I never saw an interview with the mangaka of hni though. Would love to hear him talk about his own past leading up to his idea for ippo

why are you reading the manga when the anime is waayyyy better?

I tried watching anime like 2-3 times, But I couldn't continue. But reading manga is better in this case. You have your own way of imagining the panels.
