Did you miss the change all its properties to block any attack part? Meaning if guy attacks from any direction, yata will adjust and block.

Amaterasu is useless since pressure of opening 6 or 7 gate will work just like shinra tensei.
Tsykuyomi or any genjutsu is never landing on Gai.
Susanoo and Totsuka are easily dodged.
Yata is bypassed and Hirudora crush Susanoo from behind.

Itachi cought Naruto in a genjutsu with nothing but his finger.
Then on his second encounter he cought him with a crow flying by Naruto's side.
He cought Sasuke (An Uchiha) in a blink of an eye during their last battle.

And in all 3 cases it took them a while to even realize they were in a Genjutsu.

Once cought, it wouldn't take long for Itachi to kill him.

And then, there is also that one time where he actually grabbed Kakashi's head and aimed his eye againts his.
