Congratulations on your win again.

It's important to understand Yin in the Daoist context along with the AB context, because they are both closely related. I know you're in the Hayabusa clan, so no doubt you've ran into this discussion a lot. What is the extent of your understanding of Yin-Yang in the Daoist sense? Then what is the limit of your knowledge with Yin-Yang, focus on the Yin, in the NRP?

Yin and Yang are two polar opposites to create everything we have in reality, they can work in tandem or against one another.

Yin is all about spiritual energy, and imagination, the creation of all things, giving things spiritual form and/or properties. Which is why Yin Release in the RP is often tied to Genjutsu as it requires mental energy and creativity to something out of nothing.. Whereas Yang is concered with physical energy Yin is spiritual, and as such Yin is capable of things otherwise possible, changing the properties of the five basic elements: making fire cold, lighting solid, etc etc. Yin Release also has chakra draining qualities which can be taken advantage of in CE's etc.

Nothing you said was inherently wrong. But let's expand on it a bit. Read this and comment.

In Asian philosophy Yin is one half of a whole, this being Yin-Yang. While the two represent a single whole, they are also complimentary and contradictory forces in the universe and spirituality. It is a duality that simultaneously opposes itself, but comes together to form a perfect balance that is constantly in motion. Yin, specifically, is characterized as dark, fluid, and docile. It is also seen as passive and feminine, as well as represented as the moon.

Yin and Yang is present in many Asian philosophies; these are most notably Confucianism and Daoism. Because Reborn studies Daoism, and it was used as the basis for Yin on NB, I'll focus more on that rather than Confucian Yin (even though they are very similar). Daoism focuses on the balance aspect of Yin and Yang. It notes that the two forces are always flowing and never in a static state. In the Daoist philosophy, Wuji is the primordial universe; it is essentially 'nothingness' or the void. From nothingness came everything, or Taiji. But because there is no fundamental difference between nothing and everything, polarity is introduced in Taiji, which forms Yin and Yang. From Yin and Yang come the 8 Trigrams, and through that come Creation of All Things (10,000 Things).

Yin and Yang cannot be separated and exist independent of one another. This is represented by the Taichi symbol, which has Yin present in Yang, and Yang present in Yin. So while they are contradictory forces, they also sustain one another. They are opposite, but balanced together.

Now, in the context of Naruto Yin is the energy that governs spiritual energy, the imagination, and darkness. In simple terms, it is creation from nothing. Birth from imagination. Form created from lack of form. Yin is the application of imagination; because of this, it is capable, on its most basic level, of creating characteristics that would otherwise be impossible in techniques. Yin can grant fire the property of being cold, it can cause lightning to become solid, or make earth intangible. It has powerful chakra draining qualities, notably in the Phantom Dragons, Hands of Sloth, and Hungry Ghost.

Beyond this, because Yin governs the spirit and spiritual energy, it is intrinsically connected to the mental state. It affects the minds of others, or even the user's, as well as the balance of spiritual and physical energy in the body. Yin's nature allows one to take Genjutsu techniques to a level beyond what would normally be possible. Illusory techniques can be empowered to bend the will of the user's victim, weaken their spiritual energy and wipe out the balance between spiritual and physical. One of the most important aspects of this is that, because the balance between spiritual and physical energy in a body is thrown off, Yin can render someone unable to mold chakra.

A lot of fields stem from Yin. The obvious one is Genjutsu (as previously discussed). Yin is inherently the basis for Genjutsu; it affects the spiritual energy of a target and can bend their will and throw off the balance of energies. Yin also forms the basis for Nara and Yamanaka techniques, both being spiritual in nature. But its important to always remember that Yin is vastly larger than these. These are products of Yin. But Yin at its core, and the reason for why I picked it as my starting energy, is that it is creation from imagination. Form from nothingness.

As I said, Yin has unique traits exclusive to it just like Yang had. Yin is cold, receptive energy ( much like Yang on regards to it's heat, Yin gives off no cold air or anything; however, it is chilling to the touch. Picture a cold chill down your spine when scared or 'spooked'. If touched, you'll notice extremely cold but not when just near it ). It is spiritual energy and by extension works by manipulation of the spirit ( You're able to create spiritual entities that target the enemy and have vitality draining abilities. You're also capable of creating Genjutsu and Genjutsu like jutsu that target the enemy's spiritual nature or the users. These appear with some custom abilities such as the Kurama Clan, who utilize their Yin natured abilities to augment Genjutsu by making them 'real', or Uchiha, who utilize Gen heavy special abilities and some Yin and lesser Yang related abilities [one could argue that Susano'o is a YY natured technique, for example], Tayuya and her Doki, easily the greatest Yin natured canon tech that creates spiritual entities that attack the enemy's vitality and drains it, etc ). While Yin logically may be capable of disrupting the body's balance, only Yang energy is able to cause an imbalance of energy in the body that can have varying effects ( only Yang energy is able to affect the opponent in a way that this imbalance can hinder or harm them due to Yang requiring greater control over the dominant and wild energy ) and a few more smaller things that I'll point out in jutsu by jutsu.

Read this excerpt over real quick before we move onto technique training. This is probably the best succinct understanding of Yin Release you'll find.

Got it, Yin is cold, spiritual energy that can disrupt the body's balance, but one would require Yang to actually effect the opponent (hinder/harm them) cause Yang requires greater control over the dominant and wild energy.

You can use Yin to augment Genjutsu, or effectively utilize your imagination to break things into existence

Yin-Yang may be changing in the near future. What these changes will entail, I'm not sure. We will cover them in training, though. I think this will mostly impact Yin-Yang as a full unit, rather than Yin and Yang individually. But we'll find out soon I think.

Anyways, first technique.

(Inton: Ten ni henkō) - Yin Release: Change into Heaven
Type: Supplementary
Rank: S-Rank
Range: Short
Chakra cost: N/A (+50)
Damage points: N/A
Description: The user manipulates a technique of the basic 5 elements with Yin nature, allowing him to change its properties. Fire can become solid. Lightning can become tangible. The possibilities are as endless as is the user’s own imagination. The end resulting technique is neutral to all basic elemental natures. This doesn't consume time since it’s actually a skill applied to a technique used at the same time.
Note: Yin Release masters can apply this technique to advanced fields, CE and advanced elements.
Note: Usable 6 times per battle

Give me your understanding of this technique, and then we will discuss the limits.

A technique that lets you manipulate the properties of your elemental jutsu, the user is limited to their imagination and fitting within the confines of the technique. It let's you string together more impressive combinations.

I wanna ask though, can this be applied to Tai/Earth or Wind/Fuuin, or Summoning/Element type techniques?

Before I answer your questions, what do you think the limits are of this technique? That will help you understand those questions better. I'll fill in the gaps you don't fill.

You can't really change anything besides the actual properties of the technique, there aren't actual benefits from it you can't change the size of damage of the technique through this technique. And by changing the nature of the technique you could potentially change the effects of the technique.

Yeah, that's fair to say. I'll expand on it:

The three most important limitations here are the size of the technique this is applied to and how that technique is perceived. Under no circumstances can the size of the technique be altered. You can't use your imagination to create a mountain out of a pebble, and you can't change a lake of water into an ocean of lava. Likewise, if you remove the 'form' of the technique, meaning what makes it corporeal, the size still won't change. It will always stay the same in terms of space occupied, even if it no longer technically occupies space.

The second important limitation here is sensory perception. Basically how your opponent can perceive this technique. There must always be a way to detect it, even if it isn't obvious. But it must always be there. You can't make a technique invisible to all 5 senses. It just can't work that way.

Now what I'm going to say next aren't necessarily 'hard' limitations like the above two. These are more of logical limitations to how you can change a technique. It's important you always consider how this will impact the nature of the element itself. If you turn Fire cold, then you have cold Fire. But if you turn fire into a liquid that is also cold (technically possible with Change into Heaven), then do you really have Fire anymore? It begs the question of whether or not the strengths of the element you've changed have been impacted. So this isn't to say this is off limits, but it gets sort of janky. So remember to be logical.

Alright, I honestly didn't realize we could manipulate the sound of the technique. So we could essentially make it soundless, but we would have to leave the other ways to detect it.

(Inton: Gogyou Gen) - Yin Release: 5 Elements Illusion
Type: Supplementary
Rank: S
Range: N/A
Chakra Cost: N/A (+50)
Damage: N/A
Description: This technique allows the user to combine their elemental chakra with Yin Release in order to create stronger, more potent genjutsu. When the user casts a genjutsu, rather than using their raw chakra they will use one of the basic elemental natures, thus increasing the potency of the jutsu. The jutsu increases in strength by one rank and due to the massive amount of chakra used, the jutsu can penetrate through any subversive method against genjutsu. By using nature chakra rather than raw chakra, the properties of the genjutsu can change in accordance to that nature and become stronger. For example, using Crushing Snake Constriction with Fire Release chakra would make the snakes appear, feel, and sound as though they were on fire. As well, the technique would follow the rules of elemental genjutsu. The user is free to alter the effects of a genjutsu within reason as long as the primary effects remain the same.
Note: Can only be used 6 times per battle.
Note: Cannot be used on techniques above S-rank.
Note: Yin Release masters can use advanced elements and CE

So this is a big one, although they are all big ones really. I'll make a few brief notes before we discuss the technique. The chakra infusion from this technique doesn't make illusions more difficult to break out of. This is the same for all Yin-Yang techniques that have these very large chakra infusions. It doesn't actually apply to the technique itself (i.e. +50 chakra doesn't make a technique more difficult to seal), it just places more of a strain on your chakra reserves. For this technique specifically, the way that Genjutsu becomes harder to break out of is through the increase in rank that it offers for S-Rank and lower illusions.

What do you think the note about penetrating through any subversive methods means? And what do you think the limits are on this technique; what I mean by this is that 5 Elements Illusion lets you alter the effects of an illusion "within reason" as long as the primary effects remain the same. What do you think are the limits to this?

Essentially you cannot passively break through this genjutsu, (what does this mean for people immune to genjutsu?) You cannot add any additional effects and properties besides the logical effects of the applied element.

Essentially you cannot passively break through this genjutsu, (what does this mean for people immune to genjutsu?) You cannot add any additional effects and properties besides the logical effects of the applied element.
So by immunities I'll use the following examples: Nekura, Bijuu, and Surgebinders. All three can passively ignore illusions of most brands. But these illusions, enhanced by Yin Release, pierce those passive immunities. So with this you can place any of those types of immunities and resistances and force the opponent to confront the illusion.

Now here's a question for you: the Bringer of Darkness illusion. If you infuse Water Chakra into this illusion, will you cause your opponent to feel the sensation of drowning?

(Inton: Gaki no Jutsu) - Yin Release: Hungry Ghost Technique
Type: Supplementary
Rank: S
Range: N/A
Chakra Cost: N/A (+50)
Damage: N/A
Description: Hungry Ghost is a spiritual parasite created through the user’s Yin Release chakra. When using an elemental jutsu, the user will form the ram hand seal to seal the hungry ghost within their technique. Sealing the hungry ghost inside one’s technique happens within the same timeframe as their elemental technique. When the user’s technique clashes with another technique, the parasitic Yin Chakra will eat away at the chakra within the technique, weakening it by one rank. Once the hungry ghost consumes foreign chakra it is released and immediately attaches itself to the source of the foreign chakra (the opponent). From there, the parasite continues to eat away at the enemy’s chakra every time they use techniques (all techniques reduce in rank and power by 1 degree). Once the Hungry Ghost is released, its tether is immediate and cannot be blocked or circumvented by ordinary means. The effects of Hungry Ghost last for 4 turns.
Note: Can only be used 5 times per battle and cannot be used on the same target more than twice.
Note: Surges or Barriers that utilize Yin, Yang, or Yin-Yang chakra can break or prevent the tethering of the Hungry Ghost.
Note: Yin Release master can apply this technique to advanced elements and CE
Note: Hungry Ghost can only be used on S-rank techniques and below.

What do you think about this technique? There are a lot of finer points about it that are interesting to learn and know.
