Greatest video game franchise?

It's Zelda and it's not even close. Everything in all of the games everyone else has mentioned came from Zelda: Inventory screens, targeting systems, tons of RPG elements, puzzle solving, boss battles, Health and magic meters, and platforming.

I can agree with this. Not only did it start off the whole fantasy RPG stuff (including boss battles, health, magic meters, etc etc as you mentioned) waaaaay back in NES days (or was it Super Nintendo? i forget), but it was revolutionized with Ocarnia of Time on the N64. They made that sh*t 3D! xd

I'd hate to say it but World of Warcraft, Diablo and Starcraft take the prize. Its not even close. So many people play those games more than anyone ever has at one point and are still playing. I know people who have played world of warcraft since day 1 over 6 yrs ago. I dont know any other game that can say that about its players
