He led the nation through the majority of the biggest war we had ever entered. He helped pave the way for a necessary set of well-fare reforms and acts. Considering all of the class division we have today, the lack of those programs would make this country even more elitist. The use of executive power in his branch was nowhere near as great as the executive power being utilized today. Roosevelt didn't start wars. Congress actually declared war in his time. Bush and Barrack Obama continued prolonged wars by the use of executive action only.

And he's worse than Carter? Nixon? We could go down the list. You have no idea what you're talking about.

OT: Roosevelt by far. Stalin only refined the system by betraying Lenin's vision and using capitalist policies to develop the economy of the USSR. (which was smart.) And then we can go to the mass graves. Churchill didn't do crap as a statesman. The best thing he ever did was tell the Nazis 'hell no.' I would still choose him over Stalin, but he was regardless the weakest politician out of the three.

Welfare necessary? It can be argued that people would be better off without it, and people are abusing the system. If it wasn't in place we wouldn't have such a lazy lower class. The gap between the lower and middle class would be a lot less. That's the argument anyways. I can't say it will be better for a fact because it didn't turn out that way, but you can't say it would be worse either.

If you read some of them, a lot were declared unconstitutional. They all are actually, but whatever.
You are saying we would be more elitist without them? From him implementing these policies, it gave the government so much power. A lot of the policies still in place are screwed up too. Look at SS. The government doesn't know how to give the people the money they deserve. Solution? Raise how old you have to be to retire and say it is because people are living longer and hope they die sooner.

The executive power is worse today? If FDR didn't set the example and abuse it, we wouldn't have the problem we have today. Whats funny is the other big time the Exe power was used was when his cousin Teddy was in office. He established national parks. Yes national parks are unconstitutional. Why?

What does it mean? The government is not allowed to own no more then a 10 by 10 mile piece of land. This area btw is Washington D.C. Yet, the government owns national parks, military bases, and many other things. Did you know the government owns 97% of Alaska? All because of Teddy. Don't get me wrong, I love national parks, but does the government really need to control the land? Couldn't the states do it? It's just another cost for them.

I could go on and on about this subject alone.

About the whole war thing.

Congress has the power to declare war, can raise armies and money for the war, but no longer then 2 years. Congress has declared war every time, but they have done it unconstitutionally since WWII. This is because they continue the war after the 2 years without renewing. If the people in congress actually read the constitution, we wouldn't have had people over in Iraq and other places like we have. The moment the "People"(since congress represents the people) wanted to get out, after the 2 year time period was up, everyone was required to go home. Funny how people blamed Bush for the war, but congress was responsible for saying it's time to leave. Don't get me wrong, Bush is a horrible president, just stating facts.


I was being factious about my choice, they are all horrible imo, just in their own ways. Churchill just did the least wrong by not doing much.

Agree, If some of the good people had such capabilities ....... but among these three I wld choose Churchill, tough i m doubtful of his military skills.

Well, Stalin-boy achieved almost every bloody goal he was set to achieve. Yet a ruthless dictator. Many blame that on the death of his first wife.

Churchill is Churchill. Special character.

I'll go for FDR - His economic policies during depression was how I first came to know him in depth. He was a Keynesian, something that brilliant government of yours(if you are American) is not considering. Employ the bloody Keynesian principles that FDR used to save US's ass but no ! Lets print money.

AND HE HAD A RADIO SHOW WHERE HE TALKED TO HIS CITIZENS ABOUT THE LEGISLATION ! How cool is that ?
