UpDate it...or

Uninstall and Reinstall

beside that GO TO

C:/program Files(x86)/Google/Update

that is where you update it... in your C: their will be 2 Program Files Folder pic (x86) depending on your PC
IDK If theirs a bookmarks folder outside of chrome

You will not loose the bookmarks if you install another version or simply install Firefox and let it take the bookmarks from Chrome. Then reinstall Chrome and take the bookmarks from Firefox.

I usually have my Chrome synced with my Gmail, which does all the synchronization.
So even if I uninstall it, the reinstalled version automatically loads the previous bookmarks after logging in from my Gmail.

Anyway, if by outside you mean as an external HTML file then it's easy.
Open the Tools menu (the drop down button on top right), hover your mouse arrow over the Bookmarks button and click on "Bookmark manager". There, you'll see a drop down option called "Organize" (top left side). Click on it and then select the very last option, which is labelled as: "Export bookmarks to HTML file...". Name it and save wherever you want to save it. Now even if you re-install the browser, just go the same organize option and instead of export, click on the import button and select the file that you saved a while ago and load it. You're done. =)

^^First try this, if not possible then-

For win 7
1. press windows key+r
2. type C:\Users\""your user name"\AppData, change your name with your user name without quotes
3.open local>google>chrome>user data>default
4. copy the bookmarks and bookmarks.bak file

Now there are two ways
1. open file with a text editor and read the contents one by one.(cumbersome)
or

1.uninstall and reinstall chrome.
2. copy the bookmarks file in the aforementioned folder, you are good to go
