Shikamaru was low on personal chakra source. To the point, that his personal chakra source couldn't recover and keep him alive at the same time. By having Kurama's chakra pumping into him, his own personal chakra source can focus on recovering while Kurama's chakra keep the body alive. It is very easy to understand.

Your cut can heal without healing jutsu if you bandage it and rest. In my original post I clearly said that it's healing, but indirectly - it increases speed of natural human healing process, because it restores your chakra.
