Hmm.. Most likely its the gif's pixel coloring to it's approximate.
I'ma download the program and test out a few vids, check a few minutes later and I'ma edit this post with what I think you should do (What I think, but its your choice if you want my suggestion :D)
Ok, I have no idea how you converted your .avi to .gif using MS Gif Animator. Though, to convert a video, the best I've seen in the webs is vidgif. Problem is you have to buy it.
I saw a free usable site where you can covert videos to anything. Google search/ Free online video converter. There you will have a list of sites where you can upload and download the .gif.
Though, I'm looking for a dlable open source .avi to .gif converter. ((Very unlikely to find one)) D:
GOOD NEWS!
I found this. D:

Its a free software I just download it. What it does is capture frame by frame of the avi. Using this images as jpg you can build the gif with a gif maker.
Its a tedious job but hey, its free. D:
In addition to what you said, here's a good video converter, it converts almost every popular format, and even lets you download and convert youtube videos.
it's freeware as well so it's just nice to have if you need to convert a file...
