Recently I've started thinking about this...I've always had a dream to be a fireman. I know I can do it if I'd really put my mind into it. So I'm certain about passing the tests.

But then again the pay isn't that good for a fireman. And I also have to think about my financial future.

And if I really started to study about a level higher profession, I might get the job that pays well. Problem is, it's highly possible that the latter kind of profession would be something I would not like as much as being fireman.

So I dunno if I would regret it later. Choosing a job you'd love doing every day or choosing a job of which the only thing you'd love would be the pay day.

Have you ever thought about this?

All the time bud, but it's really not that hard just do what feels right if you can go for both and get them just go for what feels right, don't get stuck in a job thats gonna make you want to get out of there asap but on the other hand don't go for a job even if it looks exciting if you think you are going to be stuck. Sorry if this didn't help lol

I personally am in no position to give advise but one of my past teachers had this same problem. he worked for a company that made things for somebody important (meaning he couldn't tell us because of what he was in charge of making). he hated the job but it paid very nicely. after a few years he quit because he made the choice to get the job that he loved, which was teaching.
plus if you work hard enough you could eventually be the chief right? I'm sure that they get paid pretty nice.

FDNY firefighters get paid well. After 5 years with them your salary bumps up to 90k and there's still promotion opportunties. Take it from me, I applied last year and finished my written exam. Still waiting for the call for the medical and psychological examinations then hopefully the Physical exam.. However, once you finish all the exams you'll be put on the civil service list and wait until your name is called.. and that takes up 2-4 years!

I'm following my dreams man and you should do the same. If you want to be a firefighter i'm saying go for it.. It'll be a while until you're actually set up at a station. In the mean time work out for the physical test and go to college to get a degree..

The things with dreams are.. you have more than one.

I wanted to join usmc so I invested a lot of time into pt. But at the end I couldn't enlist because of a spine injury a few years back.

Anyway,

So now I work in retail. I like it. lol but at the same time I'm juggling school now. Take what you can get. I never had many options so I don't know what you're going through.
