Hiei finishes his stretches, and then enters the training grounds. He walks to within a meter of his sensei and bows.

Thank you for taking me as your student, Cobalt-Sensei.

Genjutsu is one of the three broad technique styles, the other two being Ninjutsu and Taijutsu. It is the same as Ninjutsu in that it requires chakra to do, but it is different in that a Genjutsu attacks the mind instead of the body. Since it attacks the mind, no real harm is done. This is why Genjutsu is often used as a diversionary, supplemental, or defensive technique.

Genjutsu works by controlling the chakra flow to an opponent's brain. Knowing this, we can see how to stop a genjutsu that you are under. Altering your chakra flow, injuring yourself, a genjutsu release technique, or being a jinchuriki will all release you from genjutsu.

Hiei starts by concentrating on disrupting the systems in and around your optic nerve. After I sudden realization, he forms one hand seal.

Genjutsu!

The willow tree starts to wave, and in the blink of an eye, an oak tree stands where the willow used too.

You can do the technique twice or multiple times which is called layering. You can place your opponent into multiple illusions at once as long as they are the same rank, and once the opponent breaks out of one of them the other one is activated. Check the genjutsu rules for details.

( Genjutsu: Kahen Tonsou ) - Illusion Technique: Flower Petal Escape
Rank: D
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost: 10
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user makes five handseals, appearing to dissolve into a shower of cherry blossom petals. These petals surround the opponent, blocking his vision. This allows the user to mask his movement effectively.

After doing five hand seals you place your opponent into an illusion where a shower of cherry petals appears and starts swirling over the field, while you disappear in the midst of them. The petals block the opponents view allowing you to move towards him without alarming the opponent.

( Genjutsu: Kasumi ) - Illusion Technique: Servant
Rank: D
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short
Chakra Cost: 10
Damage Points: 20
Description: The user does one handseal and throws a paper bomb at the enemy. The enemy, trapped in a genjutsu will see a clone of the user advancing upon him. As the paper bomb reaches the enemy, it explodes

After one hand seal you set an illusion which makes the enemy see you create a clone and approach it, but in reality you you throw a paper bomb which explodes upon reaching the enemy.
( Kasumi Jūsha no Jutsu ) - Mist Servant Technique
Rank: D
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost:10
Damage Points: N/A
Description: This illusion creates numerous illusionary clones of the user that appear to emerge from the ground, trees, rocks, etc. If these clones are attacked, they appear to multiply. The user can co-ordinate his attacks with the clones to make it appear as if they are real.

This illusion creates many clones of you which come from the ground and your surroundings. If your opponent attacks them they multiply, increasing their numbers. There is a large variety you can do with the clones to make it more realistic, and the number of the clones is all up to you.

I'm assuming he wanted me to perform each jutsu. If you would like more, just let me know and I will add it.
______________________________________________________________________________________

Sasuke stands in front of your clone and weaves the 5 required hand seals while infusing his chakra into your clones brain. Sasuke would then cause him to see Sasuke's body erupt in an explosion of cherry blossom pedals. Masked by this, Sasuke would run to his location silently, and put a kunai in his back.
______________________________________________________________________________________

Sasuke infuses his chakra into another clones brain after the completion of a single hand seal. He then throws a paper bomb at him, and watches as the clone readies himself. He would see an illusion of Sasuke running at him instead of the paper bomb, so he would have no reason to do anything different. The paper bomb explodes as it nears him, causing him to disperse.
______________________________________________________________________________________

Sasuke infuses his chakra into his opponent with a glance and watches his reaction. He would look left, then right, then behind him, and in almost every other direction. Then he began swinging wildly not hitting anything but the air. The illusion that he believes to be reality is that my clones are emerging from the ground all around him, and as he punches, he is splitting the clones into more clones, until his vision is filled with nothing but an army of clones.

First note, do not describe how the clone reacts. Simply describe what he is experiencing within the illusion. Secondly, from now on I'd like you to include how you would use this in battle, and how you could deduce that the illusion is, in fact, not reality. Also, for the second technique, I just want to be sure that you understand that they see a clone, and not your actual self, running; they can still clearly see you, unaffected in any way.

We're just going to do one technique to start this new system.

( Magen: Narakumi ) - Demonic Illusion: Hell Viewing
Rank: D
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short
Chakra Cost: 10
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user performs two handseals causing it to appear as if a swirl of leaves surrounds the opponent. The swirl eventually falls away, and after a few seconds, the opponent sees the image of whatever they fear the most, shocking them and potentially causing them to faint.

So, beginning with two handseals, you're going to affect the optic nerve to create the illusion of leaves swirling around the opponent. The leaves are more of a distraction as your chakra enters the amygdala of the opponent's brain, causing it to "trigger" and induce whatever it is the opponent fears as a comprehensive illusion - if they fear spiders, they will hear spiders; if they fear bugs, they will feel bugs crawling around their body, hear the buzzing of their wings, see where they are in accordance to their other senses; etc.

Sasuke stands within two meters of a clone, and weaves two hand seals while glaring him in his eyes. This would infuse his chakra into the clones brain and disrupt the normal function of his optic nerve initially, so that he would see an illusion of leaves swirling around him. This is happening at the same time that my chakra starts to go to work on the amygdala inducing his deepest fear to manifest itself before his eyes.

Utilization

I would use this as a way to delay my opponent from immediately acting on my next move. For example, if I were to use this technique:

Rank: A
Type: Attack
Range: Short-Long
Chakra cost: 30
Damage Points: 60
Description: After doing the needed hand seals Tiger → Ox → Monkey → Rabbit → Ram → Boar → Ox → Horse → Monkey → Tiger → Dog → Tiger → Snake → Tiger → Ox → Monkey → Rabbit → Bird, the user will form a gigantic vortex of water in the form of a ring in front of him. It will then shoot a gigantic torrent of water that extends water over a large scale, surges upon impact and rises up to several dozen meters high only to collapse down, forming massive waves all around as it does. The effect is such that as its collapsing it resembles a waterfall, hence the name of the technique. In doing so, it resembles a huge wave, with tremendous power that can hollow out the ground. What remains after that technique's utilization is reminiscent of no less than the aftermath of a natural disaster. This is a considerably advanced ninjutsu, and activating this technique requires a fair amount of chakra. The normal use of the technique requires a water source which is manipulated into the technique but some users have shown the ability to use the technique as a water stream exhaled from the mouth and forming more of a gigantic barrage/stream/wave of water rather than the more intricate and complex use of the main application of the technique.
Note: Can be used with a water source or by using one's own chakra to exhale the technique without the need for a water source nearby.

-It might be a good idea to put them under this illusion first, so that I have time to weave that entire slew of hand seals.

Reality Check

Realizing that this is a genjutsu is very situational. If you feared spiders, but are fighting in the woods, it wouldn't be hard to believe that what you are experiencing is real. Simple fears are easy to incorporate into the battle, but more complex ones are tough, if not impossible to infuse smoothly. My Sasuke bio would have the immediate thought of the situation being irrational, therefor an illusion, if this were to be used on him. His fear is losing those he cares about, most of which has already passed, so to see it again would be completely too far-fetched to believe.

Looking back over the technique, I believe it has been nerfed from what it should be... Because of the phrasing "the opponent sees the image of whatever they fear the most", I think it only manifests as a visual illusion (while, realistically, it should be all-encompassing, it is only D-rank).

( Genjutsu: Kai ) - Illusion Technique: Release
Rank: C-S
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short
Chakra Cost: 15-40
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user does one hand seal to focus and then proceeds to disturb his chakra flow by forcefully stopping it momentarily and then "spiking" his spiritual energy, unbalancing his chakra. This dispels any genjutsu set upon the user except MS Eye Techniques, Paralysis-like Genjutsu and Demonic Illusion: Toad Confrontation Chant. The effectiveness of this technique is dependent upon the skill of the user. A Jounin rank ninja can dispel Genjutsu up to C-rank. An S-class ninja can dispel Genjutsu up to B-rank. A Sannin rank ninja can dispel Genjutsu up to A-rank. A Sage rank user can dispel Genjutsu up to S-Rank. The user may use this technique through physical contact on others to dispel them from Genjutsu. The technique can only be used once per turn and the user still needs to fully follow the logic as to why he figured out it was an illusion.

Once you're under a genjutsu, you basically form the Tiger handseal and concentrate on your chakra. This take's precise control, and to put it into modern terms, you "turn it off and turn it back on again". It's actually you separating your physical and spiritual energies for a brief moment by exciting your spiritual energy (it's the opposite of releasing Gen through pain - instead of disturbing your physical energy, you calm yourself and disturb your spiritual energy). When practicing, you'll be under the following illusion.

( Kori Shinchū no Jutsu ) - Sly Mind Affect Technique
Rank: C
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost:15
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user casts an illusion on the opponent that makes them believe they are travelling in a straight line, when instead they are moving in circles. This is only effective on moving opponents. If the opponent travels in the circle for hours, they will be exhausted.

Alright, this is a difficult illusion to describe... Because you can't control a person's actions, you can't force them to walk in circles. To circumnavigate this, your chakra affects the part of the brain which revives signals from your inner ear which lets you know how balanced you are (known as the metencephalon, if you care). It's the part of the brain which tells you "oh crap! I'm at the edge of the stairs and I'm falling backwards!". It's also the part of the brain which tells you that you're turning left/right. Because of this, you can manipulate the metencephalon to make your opponent feel like they're turning in one direction when they're moving straight, causing them to turn the opposite direction to compensate (ie. you make them feel like they're moving to the left, so they move more to the right so they feel like they're moving straight). This illusion also affects the optic nerve to make your opponent see what they would expect to see if they were actually moving straight (ie. object coming towards them, etc.).

These are both a tad complex, the first for reasons of "we don't really understand it" and the second because it's simply too freaking complicated to figure out, with the loopholes as to how we actually make a person act this way, and what's exactly happening.... etc. etc. It's easy to know what results you get, it's just understanding "why" that isn't clear. So, just do your best. While understanding "why" is important, it's far more important to understand how to use it in battle, what a technique's limits are, and how to counter it, which is what I'm trying to get at with the "perform", "utilize" and "reality check" portions of the training.

I really appreciate the explanations. I like to use real life logic when I can, so this helps me a ton =)

Illusion Technique: Release

Performance

Sasuke patiently watches the clone mid range from him. He doesn't seem to move, but something is still off. Sasuke starts to move in to attempt the Hell Viewing technique once more for practice, but notices that he isn't gaining any ground on the clone. The scenary around him seems to pass as normal, but he just isn't getting any closer, and then it hits him. Genjutsu! he thinks, as he stops and forms the Tiger hand seal. He concentrates on his chakra in its individual components, both spiritual and physical. Doing his best to calm both, Sasuke spikes his spiritual energy to release himself from the illusion.

Utilization

Using this is really situational. Yes, it is a sure fire way to get out of a genjutsu, but it would leaves me vulnerable while doing it. This means that I could be attacked in the mean time. If I have the time to do it, this technique is preferable, but sometimes you have to stab yourself in the butt cheek for time sake.

Reality Check

N/A
__________________________________________________________________________
Sly Mind Affect Technique

Performance

Standing mid range from your clone, Sasuke infuses his chakra into his brain. It travels through his chakra systems within his inner ear and brain to get into place to throw off his balance and perception. Sasuke would then form the Ram hand seal and cause a vortex of Earth to appear under the clone. He did this knowing that everything around the center, which would be directly beneath the clone, would be sucked toward the center, and if he tried to run out in a straight line, he would only run in a circle around it, eventually tiring out and being drawn in.

Rank: B
Type: Offense
Range: Mid/Long
Chakra Cost: 20
Damage Points: 40
Description: The user performs the Ram hand seal and causes causes the ground and everything on and around it to be sucked in towards the middle of a large pit, much like the method an antlion uses to catch prey. Upon being dragged to the centre, the victim will then be sucked underground. There the victim, depending on how deep the user makes them sink, will be trapped and/or suffocated. The range of the pit is determined by how much chakra is put into the technique.

Utilization

Other than the way described above, I would try to find a way to make my opponent run to tire himself out, or if I wanted them to think that they were escaping something while in reality they are still at risk to be hit by it.

Reality Check

As I mentioned in the release technique, if you focused on a point in the distance and how far away you are, eventually you are going to notice that you aren't getting any closer to it. At this point, I would immediately think genjutsu.

Just one comment about Genjutsu in general, it only goes to the brain. You chakra won't go to the eyes, or inner ear, just to the brain to distort how it perceives signals from these areas.

( Genjutsu: Jinmon ) - Illusion Technique: Interrogation
Rank: C
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short
Chakra Cost:15
Damage Points:30
Description: The user of this technique, upon casting on a stationary opponent with physical contact with them, is able to convince the enemy to give away information. However, this will only work on ninja two ranks lower and below than the caster.

So, this illusion is different from most illusions. After physical contact, you release your chakra into the chakra system of another person (first difference, as it's not isolated to the brain). Then, use your chakra to "segregate" the chakra of your opponent, while also affecting their sense of touch. Your target will then feel pain over the entirety of their body, while at the same time having their inhibition lowered with your chakra in their brain so as to extract information easier. This one you can include drawbacks for, as well as the other normal questions to answer.

( Genjutsu: Jigoku Gouka ) - Illusion Technique: Hell Fire
Rank: C
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points:N/A
Description: The user casts an illusion where the opponent sees a huge ball of fire descending from the sky and enveloping its target.

Alright, here's another illusion. Boar → Dog → Bird → Monkey → Ram handseals. This affects sight, hearing, and the perception of temperature (an extension of touch). So, you create the visual of a giant fireball, but there's more to it than that. You also affect how your opponent sees shadows, flickering lights, etc. etc. to help enforce that this is a fireball. You also create the crackling sound of flame in your opponent's ears (well, brain, but you know what I mean). Finally, you also affect how their skin interpenetrates temperature changes, allowing the heat of the fireball to be felt, increasing as it travels closer, so that the full effect is created. They do not feel burns, only increasing heat. Of course, once the fireball hits it's easy to tell it's an illusion, but you won't want to wait that long to break it.

( Genjutsu: Kasumi no Jutsu ) - Illusion Technique: Mist Technique
Rank: C
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra cost: 15
Damage points: N/A
Description: The user creates an illusionary clone that charges towards the enemy, jumps, then explodes in a cloud of cherry blossom petals which results in confusing the opponent and obscuring their vision, leaving them open for attack.

So, this illusion creates another clone of yourself which runs at your opponent. As this clone is fake, attacks go right through it. As it gets close to your opponent, it jumps into the air and explodes into cherry blossom petals. Honestly, this is a combination of two techniques you've done before. It's the one clone illusion and the cherry blossom escape illusion in one. Easy enough - enjoy.

Interrogation

Performance

Sasuke approaches a clone that has been bound by chakra infused chains, and places his hand on top of the clones head. He does this to infuse his chakra into the clones chakra systems and brain. Sasuke uses this to not only cause pain to erupt from every inch on the clones body, but to cause a disbalance in the neurotransmitters that the clone's brain releases, leading to a drastic drop in inhibition. After a few moments of this, the clone sings like a jaybird, telling Sasuke everything that he wanted to know.

Utilization

It's very hard coming up with the ideal situation to use this in battle for a few reasons. First, my opponent needs to be arguably still for me to do this, meaning first I would have to find some way to tie them down or bind them some how. Next, I couldn't really gather much information that would be useful to the battle, unless it is a team fight, in which case I wouldn't have time to gather nearly enough info for it to matter. The best way that I can come up with to use this technique would be in POW situations in NW.

Reality Check

It isn't too hard to determine that this technique is being used on you. First, you have to be tied down and in physical contact with your opponent. Next, you will feel an intense pain all over your body. Now, there would be nothing to cause this pain logically, so the next conclusion that one should draw from this is genjutsu.

Drawbacks

1.) It is only sure to work on someone two rank below you
2.) You have to bind your opponent before using this
3.) You have to remain in one spot, completely vulnerable, while you use this technique
_______________________________________________________

Hell Fire

Performance

After forming the Boar → Dog → Bird → Monkey → Ram hand seals, Sasuke uses his chakra to infiltrate his opponent's brain. He affects the occipital lobe so that the opponent would see a giant fire ball coming their way. Not only this but if they looked away from the fireball, they would notice the lighting changes that it causes as it travels. He affects the parietal lobe so that he hears the crackling of the fire drawing nearer, and then the cerebral cortex to affect their ability to feel temperature, making them get hotter and hotter as the fireball gets closer.

Utilization

I would use this technique in preparation of a lightning technique that uses a lot of hand seals. This is because if my illusion is successful, the most logical counter would be a water technique, and I could use their water as a conductor to electrocute them.

Reality Check

This biggest give away for me is the fact that the fireball has no known origin. It would be one thing if I seen my opponent release the fireball, but as far as I can tell, the fireball just appears in the sky. From this I would be able to tell that I was under an illusion, but if I'm too late for this, for some reason, I could use the fact that the fireball does no real damage to me to tell.
_______________________________________________________

Mist Technique

Performance

Sasuke forms one hand seal and infuses his chakra into his opponents brain. He causes them to see an illusion of him forming a clone. The clone then charges at his opponent, full sprint, jumping when he gets to them. As he jumps, the illusionary clone would explode into hundreds upon thousands of cherry blossoms, blocking my opponents sight, and probably leaving them a bit confused.

Utilization

As the last line of this technique says, the result of this is my opponent having obscured vision and is left open for attack. This tells me that this technique would be best used in preparation for a strong short ranged technique. This is because my opponent wouldn't be able to see me enclosing on them because of their affected vision, and by the time they got out of the illusion, my next technique would be in their face.

Reality Check

Everything seems normal about this technique until the clone explodes into petals. That is a dead giveaway that this is an illusion, but the problem with that is by the time you use this to figure out that this is an illusion, it would probably be too late.

(Magen: Nijū Kokoni Arazu no Jutsu) Demonic Illusion: Double False Surroundings Technique
Type: Supplmentary
Rank: B-Rank
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra: 20
Damage: N/A
Description: The user will do a sequence of 3 handseals, putting his opponents under a double layered Genjutsu. The user is able to create false surroundings to fool his targets, much like the simpler version of the technique. However, the illusion is in fact layered. If the opponent manages to release the first one, he will then feel the effects of the second illusion. If, for example, the first illusion is that of a desert and the second that of a forest, upon releasing the first one, the opponent will see the desert fade away while the forest appears around him, making him think he dispelled the illusion while in essence he is still caught in one. Each illusion is equivalent to C-Rank and both are casted at the same time. While normal releases will release only one illusion at a time, a strong enough pain or an external source of chakra can dispel both at the same time.

This is the same illusion you learned at D-rank, only more potent and used twice in one use. So after forming three handseals, you change how the area around your opponent looks, with a second illusion hidden beneath the first one. Normal releases, such as chakra surges and Kai, will only release one illusion at a time, while B-rank Gen-level pain and an outside source (partner using Kai, Bijuu, etc.) will break both at once. The illusions are made such that when the "top layer" illusion is broken, the secondary illusion is put into immediate effect, as if it were the reality the target was releasing themselves into after the break. Despite this technique being two illusions, it only counts as one move of your three.

( Konoha-Ryū: Yanagi ) - Leaf Ninja Art: Willow
Rank: B
Type: Offensive
Range: Short
Chakra Cost: 20
Damage points: 35
Description: The user waves their sword back and forth, which when seen by the target locks them in a genjutsu which causes them to hallucinate multiple waving arms. The movement resembles that of a willow tree blowing in the wind. With the enemy off guard, the user is free to cut them down.

An illusion with an abstract medium. After swaying your sword back and forth, use your chakra to cause your opponent to see your arms multiplying, creating a grand multitude of arms swaying back and forth, like a willow in the wind. As they're distracted, go ahead and cut your opponent down with your sword, the real arm being obscured by the multitude of false arms covering your opponent's vision.

( Genjutsu: Ingemame Ketsugō Sakkaku ) - Illusion Technique String Bean Binding Illusion
Rank: B
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost: 20
Damage points: N/A
Description: Similar to Illusion Technique: Tree Binding Death, the user will do the Dog → Hare → Snake → Ram hand seals and trigger an illusion where the user first disappears, while the target sees several bean vines growing from the ground around and beneath him. These vines bind the target body, lifting them into the air. Then a bean pod rises from the ground to reveal the user, ready to strike. In reality, the opponent is immobilized by the illusion, allowing the user to strike.

After forming the four handseals, you create an illusion in which your opponent sees you disappear, and then feels vines growing out of the ground beneath them, wrapping around their body and lifting them into the air. They then see a bean pod rise out of the ground, open up with you inside, and from there you strike with a real attack. In reality, your opponent is immobilized because their brain truly believes that the vines are holding them still, allowing you to move forward and strike.
