Genjutsu is illusions formed when one uses both chakra and handseals to control the chakra in someones brain thus making them see things that aren't real. Some of these illusions are powerful enough to kill the person that is under it. It does damage, but it is not like striking someone, it is more of a mental attack.

Genjutsu can be useful in multiple ways in battle. It can be used offensively and defensively. On offence, genjutsu can cause mental/emotional damage to ones brain. You can trap someone in a genjutsu and mess with their brain to the point where you are in control of the battle and even kill them. It can also be use to defend, you can use it to throw of your opponent, tricking them and using it to counter. For example, Itachi uses genjutsu perfectly in both situations. He can cause serious damage like what he did to kid sasuke with Tsyukinomi and do the other like the time against Naruto in part 2 where naruto was trapped in the genjutsu and could get out. Itachi throw him of badly.

Do you see that person. I want you to manipulate his mind. Start by sending your chakra into his body. Move your chakra into his mind. This is the most important part. Use your chakra to control the flow of his chakra in his brain. Manipulate his chakra so that it fools his brain into believing what you want him to believe.

I build up a good amount of chakra and focus it. I then release the chakra from my body and maneuver it towards the persons haed. I then insert my chakra into his body. I channel the chakra to his mind and beging manipulating it, moving it around and mixing my chakra with his. I then use my chakra that is in his mind to control the flow of the chakra in his head and I then manipulate his chakra. Doing so, I made him believe he was a rat and a snake is trying to eat him.

Don't just manipulate the chakra. Manipulate the flow of chakra itself. Genjutsu isn't about forcing your opponent to believe it, its making him believe it actually is there. You have to fool him into believing what you want him to, not force him. Try to control the entire flow of chakra in his brain.
I build up a large amount of chakra and focus it. I then release the chakra from my body and manipulate it towards the person. I then surround him with my chakra and begin inserting my chakra into his body. I channel the chakra towards his head into his mind. I then mix my chakra my chakra with his and begin manipulating the chakra and the flow of it in his entire brain. Controlling his chakra and the flow of it, I trick him into believing a meteor is coming right at him.

This technique changes the terrain not create flying objects. For example change a tree into a boulder or change a small pond of water into sand. You are trying to exceed the capabilities of this technique. It is only just a D-rank.
